The Walt Disney Studios announced “Marvel’s The Avengers” posted an estimated $200.3 million in its domestic debut May 4-6, shattering previous records and positioning the film as the highest-grossing domestic debut of all time. The film’s cumulative global box office gross is an estimated $641.8 million over 12 days in release.

In just three days, “Marvel’s the Avengers” is the fastest movie to reach $200 million domestically. The domestic debut kicked off Friday, May 4 and marks the second highest single day take of all time at $80.5 million. Saturday’s box office gross of $69.7 million is the highest Saturday take of all time. Moviegoers gave Marvel’s The Avengers a rare and perfect A+ CinemaScore.

Marvel’s The Avengers began opening internationally April 25 and crossed the $600 million mark globally May 6 after just 12 days in release.

International box office highlights include:

  • Opened May 3 in Russia with $17.9 million, the biggest Marvel opening weekend ever
  • Opened May 5 in China with $17.4 million
  • Biggest opening weekend of all time in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Philippines

Marvel’s The Avengers has now opened in all major markets except Israel, Poland, and Japan.

The film’s success comes a month after Marvel and Disney announced at CinemaCon that a sequel to 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s “Thor” is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, and the third installment of the hit Iron Man series, which has earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, will arrive in theaters May 3, 2013.

“Marvel’s The Avengers” is the first Marvel Studios film to be marketed and distributed by The Walt Disney Studios.

The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger on April 4, 2014. The second Captain America installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

LEGO’s jumping on the “Avengers” bandwagon, and released this LEGO-ized version of “Marvel’s The Avengers” movie poster.  Approximately 2 million of the LEGO posters will be available as a giveaway during the movie’s opening weekend on May 4th.

“Marvel’s The Avengers” World Premiere Headed for Hollywood on April 11th, 2012

Marvel Studios announced the World Premiere of its highly anticipated, summer event movie “Marvel’s The Avengers” will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California.

The red carpet will roll out at 6 p.m. for the cast and special guests, and the screening will begin at 7 p.m.  The event will be sponsored by film promotional partners Acura, Harley-Davidson, and Red Baron® Pizza.

Production has commenced today (April 26, 2011) in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon (“Serenity”) from a screenplay by Whedon.  The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City.  Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) as Thor, Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (“Thor,” “The Hurt Locker”) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are Alright”) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (“Iron Man 2”) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (“Iron Man,” “Thor”) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) as Nick Fury.

“Marvel’s The Avengers” is being produced by Marvel Studios’ President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau.  Marvel Studios’ Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.

The creative production team also includes Oscar® nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey (“Atonement”), production designer James Chinlund (“25th Hour”), Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), Oscar winning visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs (“Iron Man 2,” “The Matrix”), visual effects producer Susan Pickett (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”), stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell (“Superman Returns”), and four-time Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Dan Sudick (“Iron Man,” “War of the Worlds”).  The editors include Oscar® nominated Paul Rubell (“Collateral”) and Jeffrey Ford (“Crazy Heart”).
