When I launched “Adventures by Daddy,” I announced I would run the Pittsburgh Marathon, and chronicle my training on the blog. I’m also dedicating my running and training efforts to raise money for Give Kids The World, the Village where children with life-threatening illnesses stay when they wish to visit Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, or any of the famous attractions of Central Florida. March 10-15, I will lead a group of college students to Give Kids The World for an alternative break week of volunteering. However, as those training for a marathon know, I still have my training runs to complete. We’re right smack in the middle of the training plan, and it’s two months before the May 6th race day. I kept looking at a big 16 MILES penciled on my training calendar, and I’ve wondered how I’m going to squeeze it in when working at GKTW. Then it hit me, I need a little help from my friends. Continue reading for details on how you can join me inside the Village for a fun event.
On Sunday, March 11th, from 11am-3pm, I will run 16 miles in loops around GKTW. The Village has given permission for people to come and join me. I’m asking everyone to donate to my fundraising efforts, and come join me in the Village. The suggested donation is $26.20 ($1/mile of the marathon), but any amount donated is accepted and appreciated. You don’t have to be there right at 11am; you don’t have to be there for the whole 4 hours. Come whenever and for however long and walk a lap, run a lap, ride along in your ECV, cycle, skate, swim (wait – that might not work), whatever – just come out, enjoy a gorgeous day, see the amazing work being done in the Village, see the families enjoying a care-free vacation and respite, and share some time with friends. If you can’t come to the Village, follow along online. I’ll post updates from my run in the Village, and you can follow along virtually. To get a sense of the whimsical surroundings on my GKTW running route, check out the video below showing an aerial view of GKTW.
I hope you can join us in person or online and support GKTW. If you’re able to come on Sunday, March 11 anytime between 11am-3pm, leave a comment below or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. It’s not required to RSVP, but will give me a sense of how many people to expect. Thank you so much for your support, and I hope to see you on Sunday, March 11th.
