This post will have the official information from Lionsgate regarding The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to be released November 22, 2013.  Catching Fire is the second book in Suzanne Collins’ runaway bestselling Hunger Games trilogy with more than 50 million copies of the books sold in the United States.

Update May 14, 2013

Lionsgate released what they’re calling the first “official” film poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  I guess that doesn’t count the release of the Motion Logo poster, or the Capitol Propaganda Victory Tour Posters and Capitol Portraits, below.  Regardless, the poster of Katniss Everdeen is striking to say the least, and features a phrase direct from the books.

The sun persists on rising, so I make myself stand.

In addition, Lionsgate is encouraging fans to design and illustrate the first chapter of ‘Catching Fire’ for the chance to see their work featured on The Hunger Games’ official Facebook page.  Fans can incorporate photos, drawings, images & video to create a multimedia experience inspired by the words of the book.  Click here to “Illustrate Your Spark.”

The first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released on Sunday, April 14 at 9:00pm on the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. The trailer will be introduced by Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorn in the film), and contain 2.5 minutes of never-before-seen footage. Following the trailer’s premiere on television, it will be available online at TheHungerGamesExplorer.com, in partnership with Internet Explorer.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.  Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee.  Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname “Volts” because of his electronics expertise.

Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Jeffrey Wright garnered a Tony Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning epic “Angels in America” and reprised his “Angels” role in HBO’s 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his groundbreaking performance.  Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as Basquiat, Source Code, 007′s Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace, W, Syriana, and Cadillac Records.  Wright can next be seen with Mark Walhberg, Russell Crowe and Katherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes’ political thriller Broken City.

Sam Claflin has been cast in the role of Finnick; charismatic and clever, Finnick was a District 4 Hunger Games victor when he was fourteen.

After breaking out in his role as the romantic lead in last year’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Claflin starred in this year’s Snow White and the Huntsman playing Prince William alongside Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.   He recently finished filming The Quiet Ones opposite Jarred Harris, and Mary & Martha,  in which he co-stars with Hilary Swank.

Stephanie Leigh Schlund has been cast in the role of Cashmere, a former Career tribute from District 1; Cashmere and her brother Gloss are both competing in the Quarter Quell.

Stephanie Leigh Schlund is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress who has appeared in television series including Drop Dead Diva, and films including The Last Song.  She can next be seen in the upcoming Fox series The Following, premiering this Fall.

Maria Howell has been cast in the role of Seeder; a former victor from District 11, Seeder competes in the 75th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell.

Maria Howell is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress, singer, and voiceover artist best known as the choir soloist from the movie The Color Purple. She has also appeared on television in Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva, The Vampire Diaries, Meet The Browns, and House Of Payne, and in the acclaimed film The Blind Side.

E. Roger Mitchell has been cast in the role of Chaff, a tribute from District 11; Chaff won the 45th Annual Hunger Games and will compete in the Quarter Quell.

E. Roger Mitchell is an Atlanta based actor with decades of experience on the stage.  His small and big screen roles have included Battle: Los Angeles, The Shield, One Tree Hill, and Tyler Perry projects including Diary Of A Mad Black Woman, Daddy’s Little Girls, and House Of Payne.

Alan Ritchson has been cast in the role of Gloss; a former Career tribute from District 1, Gloss and his sister Cashmere are both competing in the Quarter Quell.

Alan Ritchson most recently starred in the CBS comedy pilot Super Fun Night with Rebel Wilson, and Blue Mountain State, which aired on Spike TV for three seasons.

Bruno Gunn has been cast in the role of Brutus, a former Career victor from District 2.

Bruno Gunn has co-starred in a variety of films, most recently the comedy hit Bad Teacher, and is recognizable to TV audiences from frequent guest starring roles including on The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sons Of Anarchy, Oz, and Prison Break.

Meta Golding has been cast in the role of Enobaria, a former career tribute from District 2.  Enobaria is known for the particularly brutal, disturbing way in which she came to win The Hunger Games.

Meta Golding is known to television audiences from series regular and guest starring roles on CSI, Criminal Minds, House, and Cold Case and will also be seen in the upcoming independent film The Chicago 8.

Lynn Cohen has been cast in the role of Mags.  A former mentor to Finnick Odair, Mags is an eighty year old Hunger Games victor from District 4.

Known to New York theater audiences for decades of memorable roles, Lynn Cohen has also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Steven Spielberg’s Munich and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, NY, as well as commercial fare such as Sex and The City and its sequel.  She can next be seen in They Came Together, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler.

Jena Malone has been cast in the role of Johanna Mason.  A female victor from a past Games still in her early twenties, and is one of the youngest, but also one of the most psychologically scarred Quarter Quell participants.

Jena Malone recently starred opposite Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton in the History Channel’s Emmy® nominated mini-series Hatfields & McCoys.  The mini-series broke cable records and is the new most-watched entertainment telecast of all time on cable.  Her additional credits include Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Oren Moverman’s The Messenger, and Sean Penn’s Into the Wild.  She will soon begin production on Lonely Hunter.

Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress.  The character’s eccentricity earns her the nickname “Nuts” from fellow tributes, and though she doesn’t communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell.

Best known to film going audiences from her memorable and award nominated roles in The Fisher King and Pulp Fiction, Amanda Plummer is also a beloved, Tony Award® winning stage actress on and off Broadway.  She can next be seen as the title character in the forthcoming film Abigail Harms.

Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Gamemaker for The Hunger Games.

Philip Seymour Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor in the title role for 2005′s Capote.  The actor and filmmaker just wrapped a Broadway run as Willy Loman in the revival of Death of a Salesman for which he was nominated for a Tony Award.  He will next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and the indie film A Late Quartet alongside Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken.  More recent films include Moneyball, The Ides of March and Jack Goes Boating which marked Hoffman’s feature directorial debut.

Francis Lawrence has officially signed on to direct The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger GamesFrancis Lawrence has experience directing films that make him uniquely suited to handle the blend of character driven drama and high stakes action such as I Am Legend, Constantine, and Water For Elephants.

Said Francis, “It is truly an honor and a privilege to bring “Catching Fire,” the second chapter of Suzanne’s beloved trilogy, to the big screen.  I fell in love with the characters, the themes and the world she created and this chapter opens all of these elements up in such a thrilling, emotional and surprising way.  I can’t wait to dive right into it and bring this chapter to life along with the truly superb cast and filmmakers involved.”

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth will reprise their roles as Katniss, Peeta and Gale, with Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, and Woody Harrelson also returning to their respective roles from The Hunger Games.  The film will be produced by Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.  Production is slated to begin this Fall, and the film will be released on November 22, 2013.
