Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin

SeaWorld Orlando launched a dedicated website for its newest attraction Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin opening spring 2013.  “Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin” will take guests into the frigid world of penguins, exploring the land through their point of view, and getting the closest look ever at SeaWorld’s penguin colony.

In addition to webcams showing daily activities of SeaWorld’s penguins, the website will feature a series of videos with behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of the new attraction.  The first video, shown below, provides the first look at the Making of SeaWorld Orlando Antarctica and reveals and a new trailer.

SeaWorld Orlando Rescues Group of Pilot Whales

Earlier this month, SeaWorld Orlando’s Animal Rescue Team, along with several agencies, responded to 22 short-finned pilot whales stranded at Florida’s Avalon State Park Beach.

The five surviving, juvenile whales (two males and three females) were transported to Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute’s Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Pierce, FL where they were evaluated, stabilized and treated by animal expert teams from SeaWorld Orlando, Harbor Branch, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Marine Mammal Conservancy, University of Florida, as well as specially trained and qualified Harbor Branch volunteers.

The four pilot whales were transferred to SeaWorld Orlando’s quarantine area.  The animal care staff introduced the three older whales to solid food (squid), but have a long way to go to get the animals eating consistently.  Therefore, the whales are tube fed every four hours with a herring smoothie – herring blended with water, essential vitamins and oil to help them gain weight and heal.  Tube feeding will continue until the pilot whales are eating solid foods consistently on their own.

One Direction’s Liam Payne Visits Discovery Cove & SeaWorld

Liam Payne, of the teen pop group sensation One Direction, received a kiss from his biggest fan, Shamu, at SeaWorld Orlando.

Payne also visited Discovery Cove, SeaWorld Orlando’s sister park, where he spent the afternoon swimming with dolphins, snorkeling with rays and hand-feeding tropical birds.
