Earlier this year, our family enjoyed a getaway at Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, OH. Over the course of the weekend, our muscles relaxed in the water park’s warm (84 degrees) water. We slid down every slide, soaked in the hot tub, got drenched by a 1,000 gallon bucket, and when that was done, we lined up for more. The water was refreshing, rejuvenating, invigorating, and essential for life. We here at Adventures by Daddy have partnered with Great Wolf Lodge so another family can have the same experience as ours, while at the same time helping those that do not have access to clean water. A $10 donation to the Passports With Purpose fundraiser will give you a chance to enter, and help build wells in Haiti to supply residents with their own clean water. Keep reading for more details on the prize pack as well as the fundraiser’s beneficiary.
Each year the travel blogging community comes together for an annual online fundraiser known as Passports with Purpose (PwP), in an effort to do long-lasting good for people around the world. This year, PwP is raising $100,000 to build five wells in Haiti through a partnership with Water.org. The fundraising effort began today at 12:01 am EST and ends on December 11, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST on PassportswithPurpose.org.
Nearly one billion people in the world are currently living without the availability of clean water. In Haiti, approximately half the country’s population lacks access to clean water. These people walk long miles every day, carrying up to 50 pounds of water for use over the rest of the day. Water.org works in partnership with the people of Haiti, as well as other developing countries, in order to help them meet their water and sanitation needs, and ensure the clean water source lasts for generations to come.
“Ready access to clean water has so many positive ripple effects. That’s why when a community drills a well, they aren’t just drilling for water. They’re drilling for opportunity: for the opportunity to go to school, for the opportunity to go to work, and for the opportunity to be healthy,” said Nicole Wickenhauser, senior development manager at Water.org. Each of the 5 new wells will serve an average of 370 people in the Haitian communities of Boucan Carre and Mirebalais.
The Passports with Purpose fundraiser works by making a $10 tax-deductible donation on the PwP site, please follow this link to donate. For each $10 donation, a person can enter to win a prize of their choice – it could be the Great Wolf Lodge vacation described in this post or any of the great travel prizes – click here to see the full list. Donations for multiple prizes and multiple $10 increments are acceptable, as well as donations without entering for a prize. On December 18, a winner will be randomly selected and notified for each prize. 100% of donations go directly to the 2012 beneficiary, Water.org.

This PwP fundraiser would not be possible if it weren’t for the support of organizations like the Great Wolf Lodge as well as the group of sponsors below who helped jump-start the project with their donations.
