Think you need to travel around the world to see some of the top vacation destinations? Some of the best lakeside destinations are right here in New York State. An article by Melissa Burdick Harmon on Yahoo! Travel named New York’s Finger Lakes and Lake George as “lakeside vacations that have it all.” These sites were highlighted alongside world famous vacation destinations such as Switzerland’s Lake Geneva, Italy’s Lake Como and Ireland’s Lakes of Killarney. Building off this success, we pledge to continue to work with the industry to bring attention to the best of New York State travel.”
“All New Yorkers know The Finger Lakes and Lake George are tourism treasures, and we are proud to have their natural beauty recognized on an international scale,” said Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams. “Governor Cuomo is focused on boosting the State’s tourism industry, which is a critical engine for economic growth. This announcement is further proof that the Governor’s efforts are paying dividends, creating new jobs and highlighting all the Empire State has to offer.”
The Finger Lakes were recognized for its more than 100 wineries which line the shores of its 11 lakes, wine tours, the beautiful village of Skaneateles, the Corning Glass Museum, and Watkins Glen State Park, where you can climb past 19 waterfalls. Lake George was noted for the family fun aspect of local souvenir shops, factory outlets, and fudge stores, as well as historic Fort William Henry and Fort Ticonderoga, which families can tour.
