VIDEO: 2013 Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This morning, Friday, May 17th, was the beginning of the 2013 Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  This special event, which is included in your park ticket, takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17th until June 9th.  So, four weekends altogether are designated as Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  If you can’t make it down to Walt Disney World for Star Wars Weekends, just continue reading for videos that will make you feel like you’re right there in the middle of it.

Most, if not all, of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ regular attractions function as normal with the added flair of extra Star Wars related experiences throughout.  There are celebrity meet and greets, question and answer sessions and autographs.  You must arrive early and get a Fastpass to obtain an autograph.  Available celebrities can change daily, so it’s a good idea to check the official Disney website for who will be in attendance before you head out.

At 11am there is a Star Wars motorcade down Hollywood Boulevard (Video Below) featuring famous Star Wars characters, Disney characters in Star Wars costumes and Celebrities.  Because of the smaller intimate size of Hollywood Boulevard compared to Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom, you really feel up and close to the celebrities as they pass on by waving at the crowd.

Storm Troopers are out in full force patrolling many parts of the Studios, so no funny business.  They are watching you! 🙂

You really never know what specific Star Wars characters will appear when, except for in the designated shows like the Celebrity Motorcade and Hyperspace Hoopla, a nighttime dance event allowing even the most sinister Star Wars villains a chance to get a little hokey.  Here’s a sampling of some of the characters out in full FORCE.  You might see Disney characters in Star Wars regalia as well as characters from the Star Wars universe strolling around the theme park.

There is a Darth Mall located backstage behind Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in an otherwise non-guest area of the park.  And no, I didn’t spell that wrong.  It’s a merchandise area playing on the name of Darth Maul – Mall 🙂

I arrived about 1 hour after park opening and the line to get in to the Darth Mall to view the merchandise was over 3 hours long.  I opted to check it out another time.  If you want merchandise, I am told to arrive very early or perhaps on weekends 3 and 4 when the crowds may or may not thin out.

Please check the Disney website for all the up to the minute event scheduling.  And keep checking Adventures By Daddy too, as through a partnership with we will continue to post photos videos here as the Star Wars Weekends events unfold.

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
