There’s a new challenge for Pittsburgh area runners to add to their calendars. Organizers of the Pittsburgh Marathon announced the Inaugural EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler is set for November 3, 2013. The Pittsburgh 10 Miler is the latest in a series of races hosted by the Pittsburgh Marathon including the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile, DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon and 5K run. Through the Pittsburgh Marathon family of races, runners can compete at all distances throughout the entire year. As a 2012 finisher of the Pittsburgh Marathon (click here for report), I can attest to their well-organized, entertaining, and challenging races set in a beautiful city. Organizers of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon are pleased to announce the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. Scheduled for Sunday, November 3, 2013, the 10-mile race will start at Station Square and finish on Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh.
“The 10 mile race is a classic distance that appeals to all levels of runners,” said Patrice Matamoros, executive director of Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. “The event provides a new challenge for beginner runners and chance to build speed and endurance for more seasoned athletes. We are thrilled that EQT Corporation has partnered with us to launch this new race.”
Participants will tour the city in a scenic course that crosses four bridges and passes through the West End, North Side, Lawrenceville, Strip District and Downtown neighborhoods. After the race, runners can enjoy a post-event celebration in Market Square.
“We are excited to be a part of this new fall race that encourages people to be active, whether they’re seasoned runners or just looking for a new challenge,” said Charlene Petrelli, President of the EQT Foundation.” At EQT, we support healthy communities. This event will showcase Pittsburgh’s active and vibrant lifestyle and is sure to become a classic.”
Registration for the event starts at $40. Sponsors of the event include: EQT Corporation, FedEx Ground and UmuvU from Dr. Vonda Wright. Click here for my interview with Dr. Vonda Wright, orthopedic surgeon and nationally recognized fitness expert.
Editor’s Note: as a Pittsburgh Marathon veteran, the Pittsburgh 10 Miler course sounds like the first 10 miles of the Pittsburgh Marathon run in reverse, and should go through some festive neighborhoods, over scenic bridges, and NOT have the uphill climb from the South Side into Oakland. I’m excited for this new challenge, and am checking my calendar now to see if it fits into my schedule.
