Ahhh, a real tropical island! A once storm ravaged oasis is on the comeback again and luring visitors with its water features. I am of course talking about Disney’s TYPHOON LAGOON – My Favorite Water Park Ever! Continue reading for a video tour giving an overview and highlights of the water park including North America’s largest wave pool, water slides, lazy river, shark reef, and stingrays.
It’s a real living Gilligan’s Island for those of you old enough to remember the nostalgic series. You absolutely feel a sense of other worldliness once you enter the property that is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It feels so secluded and so set apart from all the other Walt Disney World properties that I forget exactly where I am for most of the time. Usually, not being able to glimpse ANY part of the outside unless way atop a slide.
And as all Disney themes go, there is a rather unique albeit fake story to go along with this park. A huge typhoon wreaked havoc upon a formerly pristine tropical paradise. Ships, fishing gear and surfboards are strewn about where the storm flung them. The centerpiece of the park is “Miss Tilly,” a shrimp boat impaled upon a mountain named “Mount Mayday” that erupts a 50-foot (15 m) geyser of water every half hour.
The Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool is the largest outdoor one in North America and it’s my favorite part of the park. The water is crisp, clean and clear and I don’t have to worry about sharks or other creepy crawlies when having fun here.
Sit back, relax, enjoy the Caribbean music and have a fun-filled highlight tour through this tropical wonderland.
