VIDEO Preview of Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23

On the night of Sept 10, 2013 I had the opportunity to attend the Media Preview for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights.  We were ushered into a theatre soundstage showcasing displays of the eight Haunted Houses represented this year: An American Werewolf in London, Resident Evil: Escape from Raccoon City, La Llorona, Afterlife: Death’s Vengeance 3D, Havoc: Derailed, Cabin in the Woods, Evil Dead, and AMC’s The Walking Dead.  Continue reading for a video preview of Halloween Horror Nights including a walk through of Universal’s Walking Dead - No Safe Haven House and interview with creative director Michael Aiello.

Michael Aiello, the creative director for this year’s event took to the stage with an unyielding passion for his craft.  He described some details about the houses including the collaboration with many of Hollywood’s best film people.  For instance, John Landis was influential in the creation of the American Werewolf in London house and they worked hard to get his approval of the Wolves being used.  It’s interesting to note the wolves will be puppets and not actors this year.

I took advantage of the makeup artists offer for effects and received a lacerated scratch over one side of my face.  Luandra, the artist, was very talented and has been working with Universal since 2005.

We were then loaded onto buses to experience The Walking Dead - No Safe Haven house.  First, without cameras to get the true experience.

We were then allowed back in with cameras but no lighting allowed.  Luckily, I have nightshot, so you can see more than usual.  I would like to fib and tell you the screams were not me but you would call me out on it.  So enjoy me being totally scared.  Keep in mind that in the video, it looks bright because of the nightshot, and I seem to react to things after the fact.  To my eye, it was much darker.  Enjoy the torture I endure for your amusement LOL.

Tickets are on sale now for Halloween Horror Nights 23, running select nights from September 20 – November 2.  For more family travel news, reviews, and trip reports, be sure to follow Adventures by Daddy on Twitter and “like” our Facebook page, too.

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
