VIDEO: Talking Mickey Mouse Now Greets Guests at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom

I had seen a few test videos coming out of Disney referencing an interactive TALKING Mickey Mouse.  I followed this story closely because at the tender age of 5, I totally remember being highly suspicious of the non- talking Mickey Mouse that I had met on my first trip to Walt Disney World.  My father recalls, as do I, my first question to him after meeting just about any character… “Why don’t they talk???”  I knew there was shenanigans afoot even as a kid.  If I was a child today and I met this new talking Mickey Mouse… I would be totally satisfied with what I experienced in the Magic Kingdom.  Take a look at the video below, and see what you think.

Talking Mickey Mouse at Magic KingdomThere are kinks and it will be tweaked further.  There are awkward moments where Mickey may talk over a guest or seem to have his own agenda.  All in all though, as you can see in the video, it was very successful.  Going so far as to ask people how to say Hello in their native language and responding back with such.

I can’t tell you I know how this technology works.  I do NOT believe there is a live actor anywhere having his voice altered.  The voice IS Mickey Mouse, tone and inflections…  The phrases all seem to be pre-recorded and I rarely, if ever, heard the same phrase twice except for simple “Have a Great Day!” type things.  I was in the room with other families for a good ten minutes and everyone seemed to have a unique experience.

Rumor is, that this can be more personalized with the MagicBands.  Mickey will know your name and where you are from etc… depending upon what you choose to share beforehand.  And if you have a name as hard to pronounce as Rumplestiltskin, I guess he will just call you Pal 🙂 (or maybe The Dark One).

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
