Win a Great Wolf Lodge Getaway and Help Build Schools in Africa

Our family has enjoyed many getaways to Great Wolf Lodge indoor water parks over the years including Niagara Falls, ON; Sandusky, OH; and the Pocono Mountains, PA.  It’s a place where everyone in our family can find their own personal bliss, be it swimming and sliding, playing MagiQuest, or just sleeping in and relaxing.  Our family is lucky, and realizes the privilege of traveling and learning from our adventures along the way.  That’s why I think it’s also important to give back.  Therefore, we’ve partnered with Great Wolf Lodge so another family can enjoy some of those same experiences, while helping out those who do not have the same educational opportunities we do.  A $10 donation to the Passports With Purpose fundraiser will give you a chance to enter, and help build schools in Mali, Africa, the 5th poorest nation in the world.  Keep reading for more details on the Great Wolf Lodge prize pack as well as the Passports with Purpose fundraiser’s beneficiary.

Passports with Purpose

Each year the travel blogging community comes together for an annual online fundraiser known as Passports with Purpose (PwP), in an effort to do long-lasting good for people around the world.  This year, PwP is raising $115,000 to construct three primary schools and fund three adult literacy programs in the Sikasso Region of Mali, Africa through a partnership with buildOn.org.  The fundraising effort began today at 11:59 pm EST and ends on December 9, 2013 at 11:59 pm EST on PassportswithPurpose.org.

Passports with Purpose - Build On

buildOn’s Global School Construction Program provides rural communities in developing nations with access to education.  For two decades, buildOn has mobilized villages in some of the poorest countries on the planet to build more than 524 schools.  They break ground on a new school twice weekly with the help of parents and grandparents who have provided more than 960,454 volunteer work days.  buildOn is currently building schools in Haiti, Malawi, Mali, Sengal, Nepal, and Nicaragua.

Mali is the 5th poorest country in the world according to the UN’s Human Development Index, and also suffers from one of the globe’s lowest literacy rates at 31.1%, and only 20.3% for females.  Economic development has been a challenge due to the abundance of subsistence farmers in the nation whose livelihood is continually threatened by drought and wavering crop prices.

Education in Mali is critically important, buildOn has constructed 197 schools in Mali since 1998.  The rural regions of Sikasso, Kalikoro, and Segou now have access to 480 classrooms and 320 latrines.  Collectively, buildOn’s Mali schools have the capacity for roughly 24,000 students annually, as well as adults who participate in literacy, health, and income-generating classes through the adult literacy program.

Passports with Purpose - Build On

The Passports with Purpose fundraiser works by making a $10 tax-deductible donation on the PwP site, please follow this link to donate.  For each $10 donation, a person can enter to win a prize of their choice – it could be the Great Wolf Lodge getaway described in this post or any of the great travel prizes – click here to see the full list.  Donations for multiple prizes and multiple $10 increments are acceptable, as well as donations without entering for a prize.  On December 10, 2013, a winner will be randomly selected and notified for each prize.  100% of donations go directly to the 2013 beneficiary, buildOn.org.

Details of Adventures by Daddy’s Prize: Our friends at Great Wolf Lodge, have generously donated a two-night stay in a Family Suite for four people at any U.S. based Great Wolf Lodge resort – even the Great Wolf Lodge New England opening spring 2014 (Niagara Falls, Canada excluded).  Also included in the prize pack is two breakfasts and two dinners for 4 people and 2 days of waterpark admission included.  The winner must be at least 21 years old and mention the gift certificate upon making reservation.  Reservations are based on availability, valid every day of the week.  Blackout dates do apply.  Certificate expires December 31, 2014 and does not carry cash value.  We want to thank Great Wolf Lodge for their donation, and support of the Passports with Purpose fundraiser.

Adventures by Daddy can’t wait for another family to experience the fun of the Great Wolf Lodge like we did earlier this summer, and we’re even more excited to support this very worthy charity buildOn.org in raising $115,000 via PwP fundraiser to build schools in Mali.

This PwP fundraiser would not be possible if it weren’t for the support of organizations like the Great Wolf Lodge as well as the group of sponsors below who helped jump-start the project with their donations.
