Universal Studios Hollywood Grinchmas Opens and Honors Florence Henderson with Who-Manitarian of the Year Award

Thanksgiving weekend marked the debut of this year’s Grinchmas Holiday Who-bilation at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the citizens of Who-ville were ready for the jubilee, including the Grinch himself!  To kick off the festivities, press and invited guests from L.A. Family Housing (a non-profit group dedicated to assisting residents transition out of homelessness and poverty) were on hand to celebrate as Florence Henderson was honored with the Who-manitarian of the Year award for her charity work with City of Hope.  It was a lively event and the park looks positively charming all dressed up for the holidays.  Continue reading for more information about the award ceremony, details for this year’s Universal Studios Hollywood Grinchmas celebration, along with plenty of photos from the event and around the park.

The Grinch is ready to welcome you at Universal Studios Hollywood!

Florence Henderson, best known as matriarch “Carol Brady” from the television classic, “The Brady Bunch,” is a long-time supporter and advocate for City of Hope, a recognized world leader in compassionate patient care, innovative medical science and groundbreaking research.  Ms. Henderson gracefully accepted her award, noting that she could relate to the Grinch because she felt her own heart had grown three sizes in working with the foundation over the past several years.

Grinchmas officially debuted on Thanksgiving day, and will continue on weekends through December 15, then daily from December 20 – December 31.  One of the best things about the event is that it’s included in the price of your theme park admission!

Everybody sing along….”Fah Who Foraze, Dah Who Doraze”

Once inside Universal Plaza, guests are greeted with a bustling Who-bilation where you can interact with the citizens of Who-ville, Trim-Up-the-Tree-Lot, have Who-vian caricatures created, and even meet The Grinch and his faithful dog Max!  The striking centerpiece is the whimsical 60-foot tall topsy-turvy Christmas tree. It’s magnificent (and extremely photogenic, I might add).

Around the park, New York Street, and the International areas are just as superbly dressed up for the holidays.  They’re all covered in lights, garland, and even snow!  Quite frankly, I could’ve happily moved into the UK area – it’s just lovely.

While I was surprised to see that the Simpsons area wasn’t dressed up at all for the holidays, there is one last treat that the park has to offer.  For those that take the behind-the-scenes Studio Tour, you’ll have the chance to get a close-up view of the original Who-ville sets from the film, “Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”  The Who’s will be on the sets to re-enact memorable songs and scenes from the movie for the tour-goers, as well!

While on the Studio Tour, we ran into this guy and he asked me to send along his well wishes to you all.  I mean, really, how could I say no to this face?

I think his handlers forgot to feed him during our visit. He looks awfully hungry.

Someone’s ready for his lunch.

While that about wraps up the holiday offerings inside the park, just outside the main entrance CityWalk is also decked out for the season.
