On, March 31, 2014, Universal Orlando Resort opened its fourth on-site hotel, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort.  This ultra-hip, retro-inspired hotel features a 10,000 sq ft zero-entry pool with iconic dive tower waterslide, 10-lane bowling alley, Jack LaLanne Physical Fitness Studio, and family suites that sleep up to six.  Later this summer (June 2014), the second phase of Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort will open, and families will be able to enjoy a second 8,000-square-foot zero entry pool, Universal Orlando’s first on-site lazy river, The Hideaway Bar & Grill, additional moderately-priced family suites and value-priced standard guest rooms.  We were invited to stay during opening night – so grab your martinis and continue on back into the 50’s for a photo and VIDEO tour of the new property.

Update September 1, 2015

Universal announced the addition of 400 rooms to Cabana Bay Beach Resort opening in 2017.  The expansion will consist of two additional towers located at the south end of the property, adjacent to the Continental and Americana guest towers.  Some rooms in these new towers will offer views of Universal’s Volcano Bay – the resort’s water park currently under construction (also scheduled to open in 2017).

I felt like I was walking onto the set of a MAD MEN video shoot.  I definitely got that 50’s vibe from this vibrant property.  Is it a value/moderate hotel? Absolutely.  Are there restaurants?  No – just an adequate food court – but sometimes, ambiance and value is what people want and this definitely fits the bill.  It was comfy and fun.  The full 10 Lane Galaxy bowling alley and Starbucks near the main lobby looked perfect in their new homes.  If you feel like working out, the Jack LaLanne Fitness Club was spacious and energetic with many references to its namesake health guru.
