FROZEN Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is exactly that. It’s simple fun for the whole family but an absolute delight for true Frozen fans. I don’t think it’s much of a secret that Disney planned this Frozen event rather quickly. That being said, it was creatively entertaining and seeing the reactions from people there, you can tell FROZEN Summer Fun was a success. Update August 7, 2014
Walt Disney World officially extended FROZEN Summer Fun through September 28. Originally scheduled to end on Labor Day, September 1, the FROZEN event will shift to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 5-28.
Original post from August 7 follows below…
Take-Along Olaf
Throughout the day, Take-Along Olafs are distributed at various locations in the park. You can then take Olaf on your Disney’s Hollywood Studios adventures. As a special feature before the fireworks, you have a chance to be a part of a pre-show celebration by hashtagging photos in the park with a “Take-Along Olaf.” By sharing their photos with the unique hashtag #OlafSummerVacation, your photos may appear on the big screen before the fireworks.
Anna’s & Elsa’s Royal Welcome
Anna and Elsa embark on a goodwill tour of neighboring kingdoms. Each day at 11am, the royal sisters are joined by Kristoff, the ice cutters and joyous citizens of Arendelle who skate and snow ski their way through the procession. The magic culminates in an enticing moment at the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage to officially welcome Frozen to the kingdom of Hollywoodland. Anna & Elsa engage the audience in a LET IT GO Sing Along.
For The First Time in Forever: A FROZEN Sing-Along Celebration
Join Anna, Elsa and the newly-appointed royal historians of Arendelle in the Premiere Theater to enjoy “For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Musical Celebration.” Laugh and sing along while enjoying this humorous and heart-warming retelling of the kingdom’s history.
Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post & FROZEN Funland
There’s a “big summer blowout” happening inside the park’s Soundstage One, where Oaken – the film’s trading post owner – and his cousins have created the “Frozen Funland” amidst a winter wonderland. Living up to its name, there will be plenty of frozen festivities inside the makeshift adventure park Oaken and his cousins built to make the most of the sudden snowstorm.
Part of the Oaken’s Frozen Funland will be an ice skating rink with demonstrations by some of Oaken’s talented cousins on the Arendelle ice. Daily ice skating sessions also will be available to guests to purchase. The cost is $10 for 30 minutes of fun on the ice, and includes the use of ice skates, socks and a helmet. Skating sessions are available on a first come, first serve basis each day from park open to 8 pm.
Kids can enjoy frozen wintertime activities in the “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” area. For all of his Frozen Funland friends, Oaken has plenty of merchandise at his Trading Post, along with hot cocoa and sweet treats available for purchase.
Guests can take pictures with the film’s animated characters in a virtual setting, and then email them or share on their social media channels.
When guests want to escape the icy atmosphere of Oaken’s outpost, all they have to do is look for the door marked “Sauna,” where they once again will exit to the warm Florida sun.
Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party
Rock out to a medley of the hottest Frozen hits! Every evening starting at 5:30 pm, a dance party with a DJ and live band breaks out over Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage and runs until 9:30 pm.
At the end of a fun-filled FROZEN day, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage for a grand finale —complete with an awe-inspiring fireworks display set to the glorious music of the movie. At 9:45 pm each evening, the giant Sorcerer Mickey Hat on Hollywood Blvd. gets the full FROZEN treatment with special projections of snow and ice images, in an eye-popping spectacular above Hollywood Blvd. Set to the film’s soundtrack, the fireworks show will feature some special guests – including a very magical appearance from Elsa in which she will show how her powers flurry “through the air and to the ground” to produce magically icy blue and white gleaming fireworks.
I was most impressed with the Sing-along held numerous times throughout the day in the Premiere Theatre located next to Muppetvision 3D. Not just a sing along, but show with comedians who never took themselves too seriously. One of the jokes was that Anna had a Fjord Escort on her journey. It really was great fun.
I’m seeing people on social media either loving this or complaining about FROZEN Summer Fun. I think the event satisfied the demographic it set out to satisfy. I know the many little girls I saw in the park were beyond enchanted as their Frozen dreams became a reality.
