Ever since Disneyland’s 59th birthday celebration, we’ve waited for the announcement of Disneyland Diamond Celebration. Heck, the celebration’s been coming for 60 years now, and the Disneyland Resort did not disappoint. Disneyland Diamond Celebration begins May 22, 2015 with an all-new nighttime parade, fireworks spectacular, and glittering park icons. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s take a look at how the #Disneyland60 news unfolded, and all the details of Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration.
January 28, 2015
Twitter is ablaze with tweets anticipating #Disneyland60 – the 60th Anniversary Disneyland Diamond Celebration. Literally my feed was going a mile a second. What are they going to announce? Will there be a new Fireworks show? What about the long-rumored night-time parade?
We’re inside on Main Street. The crowd is gathering. Disney music is playing. Just waiting for the announcement. #Disneyland60

8:00 PM came…and went. Disneyland was scheduled to unveil features of its Diamond Celebration to 200 lucky Disney Parks Blog readers who had gathered on Main Street for the show. It was almost more fun watching people’s tweets of anticipation and speculation. Here are a few of my favorites:
It wasn’t until 15 minutes later that Tom Staggs took the stage, and Twitter exploded! People present were tweeting, eager fans were retweeting, bloggers throwing pictures up on their websites and tweeting out the links. If you searched #Disneyland60 that night, you couldn’t keep up with the feed! So what is the news, you may ask? Well, there were 4 BIG announcements made.
Note that all the #Disneyland60 changes will start May 22, 2015.
First, Sleeping Beauty Castle will receive a Diamond overlay. Well, that’s really more of a confirmation than an announcement. For Disneyland’s 50th, the Castle got a similar treatment.
What’s exciting is that Carthay Circle Theater will also get a Diamond overlay! Both renderings look gorgeous, and I’m excited to see them in person.
Second, The World Of Color will be a totally new show: “Celebrate — The Wonderful World of Walt Disney.” Mickey Mouse will be the “narrator” and take guests on a 60-year journey that will bring to life the story of Walt and the Happiest Place On Earth.
Then, Twitter continued to get excited when we heard that the hotly anticipated “Paint The Night” Parade is coming to Disneyland. This parade looks absolutely fantastic. having debuted in Hong Kong, Disneyland, and I’m excited to see it here. Adventures by Daddy correspondent George Gensler saw the interactive Paint The Night Parade in Hong Kong, and previously shared her first-hand account and detailed review on our site.
There was really only one thing left – Fireworks! Disneyland did not disappoint. An All-new “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular will debut for Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration.
Now unlike previous Fireworks shows before it, this will be more immersive than ever before, utilizing projection mapping technology on Main Street, U.S.A. and several other Disney locations. I am most excited about the music accompanying the Fireworks, which will include two new songs, “Live The Magic” and “Kiss Goodnight,” both written by Disney Legend Richard Sherman.
If the new songs are anything like “Feed The Birds,” I’m sold.
In a good way.
