DISNEYLAND FOREVER – A Brand New Fireworks Spectacular Celebrates Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary

The all-new DISNEYLAND FOREVER premieres this week in honor of Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, and boy, what a show-stopper!  With new projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle and all along Main Street, U.S.A., DISNEYLAND FOREVER gives guests an immersive show experience.  Continue reading for more photos, thoughts, and full video of this new nighttime spectacular.

Unlike it’s predecessor, “Remember…Dreams Come True” from Disneyland’s 50th anniversary, DISNEYLAND FOREVER actually has very little to do with Disneyland.  The show begins with a brief history looking back at the park’s roots as orange groves and Walt’s vision, then quickly shifts into scenes from various Disney movies including Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Tangled, and Finding Nemo, just to name a few.   It’s not really a negative – each scene is really impressive, it just doesn’t necessarily fit the “Disneyland Forever” title.

The pyrotechnics are absolutely incredible and it seems as if they’ve spared no expense.  That said, when DISNEYLAND FOREVER was announced, the plan was that there would be fireworks released all along Main Street, which wasn’t the case – at least not during the premier.  I’m curious to see if they’ll add it in at some point, or if they decided to nix it altogether.

One of the coolest parts of the new show are the interactive elements. If you’re standing on Main Street, it’s really neat to be surrounded by the projections, especially during the underwater scenes  and inevitably when Frozen is featured, there might be a soapy….er, frosty…surprise.

While it was great watching the show on Main Street because of the whole immersive element, we found it could also be distracting from the fireworks because you’re busy looking all around.  I’m looking forward to seeing what the vantage point is like closer to the castle, along the Rivers of America, and in front of it’s a small world.  The show is so wonderful that I’m sure it’s great from anywhere in the park!

Fire is a fun element in Disneyland Forever

Last but not least, the music! Disney Legend, Richard Sherman has 2 brand new songs featured in the show, and they’re both delightful. Particularly, “Kiss Goodnight” which is played at the end of the show. The title is a reference to Walt Disney’s own words, that a nighttime fireworks show provides “a little kiss goodnight” after a day in the park.

Imagineer of Parades & Spectaculars, Sayre Wiseman, gave us a special tip:

Look under the archway of Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end of the show for a special treat. You may see Walt and Mickey, hand in hand.

DISNEYLAND FOREVER is postively stunning and a perfect way to cap off a magical Disney day! Three new shows were introduced for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, so be sure to check out my review of Paint The Night Parade, and World Of Color: Celebrate!
