2015’s FROZEN Summer Fun at Walt Disney World is FROZEN SOLID

Disney’s Hollywood Studios undergoes a flurry of changes to its themed FROZEN Summer Fun with big improvements over last year’s installment.  From now until September 7th, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be presenting FROZEN Summer Fun.  This is a sort of themed overlay to the park with FROZEN events, attractions and food and beverage items.

FROZEN Summer Fun

If you recall, they offered FROZEN Summer Fun last year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it was quite successful although at times it felt as if the presentation was rushed. That’s because it truly was. This time however, they had time to plan, more money to spend, and it shows.

First of all, the center stage in front of the Chinese Theatre is decorated much more nicely. Olaf visits throughout the day to sing and dance in Olaf’s Summer Cooldown. But this is no 2014 Olaf. This new Olaf is articulated much like the new talking characters seen in the Magic Kingdom. Olaf appears much more lifelike with his new talking and blinking abilities. The stage has been outfitted to blow arctic cooling blasts at the audience during Olaf’s performance and the nightly dance parties. It’s a very welcome cooling moment in the Florida heat.

Then there is the Frozen Royal Welcome. This is a brief parade featuring many of Frozen’s most popular characters including Queen Elsa in a new Ice Castle float. While the procession is quick, they make stops along the boulevard to entice the crowd to join in singing Let It Go while snow “magically” falls from the sky.

Perhaps the best change this year was to – For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration. This was originally held in the small theatre next to Muppetvision 3D and has now moved to the much larger Hyperion theatre where American Idol was. The new theatre is gorgeous, the screen and sets wonderful and new projection effects make the walls come alive. The comedians (historians), it seems, have had some time to work on their spiel and it’s a very entertaining show even after multiple visits. Oh, and it’s delightfully air conditioned 🙂

Once the sun goes down there is The Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party – an all out dance party takes over the area around the Event Stage, with DJ Chill and some of your favorite Disney characters. Using a special event hashtag, you can share song requests and photos over social media, to be featured onscreen during the party.

Afterwards, Anna makes her way to the event stage soon to be joined by Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf as they kick off Frozen Fireworks. This not to be missed awe inspiring display is set to the music of Frozen while Disney Snow makes a blizzard on the streets.

Specific food and beverage items special to the event are subject to change but can be found at many locations. Most notably is the Olaf cupcake. Big enough to be shared, this carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese icing is one of the most delicious items I’ve ever eaten. Really.

So, while you may feel that Frozen Fever has left, there is enough going on to get you back into the spirit of the movie. That’s why I’m calling this event a solid success. Frozen Solid!

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
