Pretty Great Packing Tips to Eliminate Vacation Clutter

Our family’s covered a lot of ground so far this year, and it’s certainly not over yet.  Along the way, we’ve picked up a few packing tips that made traveling much, much easier.  We were fortunate to sail on Disney’s inaugural Norwegian fjord cruise, and four people in a 300 sq ft room for a week can get a little tight.  Continue reading for three “travel hacks” to help with packing and eliminating room clutter.

1. Pick up some collapsible pop-up hampers.  You can sometimes find them in the dollar store - so they don’t cost much.  They pack flat, and don’t take up much room in your suitcase.  However, they keep a hotel room or cruise ship stateroom free of dirty clothes clutter, and that goes a long way for a week-long vacation with everyone sharing the same space.  On road trips, there’s no need to re-pack dirty clothes.  We just throw the hampers in the back of the car, and they’re ready to go right to the laundry when we get home.

2. Pack an over the door pocket shoe bag.  Like the pop-up hamper, these pack flat and are relatively inexpensive.  Hang it on the back of a door, and it keeps shoes off the floor and out of the way.  Plus, the pockets are not exclusively for shoes.  They are just the right size for shampoo bottles, toothpaste, toiletries, and other items.  Storing these items in the shoe bag, really helps cut down on clutter on bathroom counters and around your hotel room.  Also, the items don’t get lost when they are kept neatly in their pockets.

3. Speaking of those shampoo bottles, a reusable wine tote has the perfect sized compartments for those bottles too.  Makes an easy travel bag for carrying those toiletries.  Although, the wine tote is better suited to shorter road trips where the loose bottles won’t get scattered around a suitcase.
