Hotel Review: Embassy Suites Buffalo, Reflects Renaissance

The city of Buffalo, New York is in the midst of an epic transformation including an entirely re-imagined and revitalized waterfront.  Our family recently took a weekend getaway to check out the changes, and stayed at the Embassy Suites Buffalo.  It turned out to be a perfect choice as the shining tower of the recently remodeled Embassy Suites Buffalo stood as a mirror reflection to Buffalo’s renaissance.  Continue reading for more details, photos, and review of our stay at the Embassy Suites Buffalo, and stayed tuned for more of our family’s experience exploring the city.

Location and Lobby

The Embassy Suites Buffalo sits on 200 Delaware Avenue – a block and a half from Niagara Square and City Hall and on the same street as the Delaware Avenue National Historic District and Buffalo’s famed Millionaires’ Row.

The lobby is elegant and modern with an inviting curved staircase that draws your eye up, and rich wine and gold color palette.  There was at least one wedding party bustling around the hotel lobby when we checked in, and seeing the space it’s easy to understand why people would choose to get married here.

The Embassy Suites Buffalo has an ideal location, easy walking distance to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, Shea’s Performing Arts Center and theater district, and just a mile to the waterfront and hockey arena.

Accommodations

Immense!  Of course the Embassy Suites brand is known for their two-room suites, and it’s one of the reasons we think the hotel is perfect for family travel.  Their two-room suites allow parents and kids to each have their own separate spaces, but the Embassy Suites Buffalo took this to a whole other level.  We received one of their Executive Suites on the top floor of the hotel.  The bedroom (pictured below) had two plush, comfortable queen sized beds, a 32-inch flat screen television, and plenty of extra space.

The bathroom was immaculate with gorgeous marble and tile surfaces.  However, it was the separate living room that totally blew us away.

The living room was absolutely huge, and included a 42-inch television, dining table, mini-fridge, microwave, and wet bar.

The most impressive feature was the 8 foot+ floor to ceiling tilted windows offering dramatic panoramic views of the city to the East.

The added space of the Embassy Suites Buffalo’s accommodations really allowed our family room to spread out and relax on our end of summer getaway.

Restaurants and Dining

Hallmark of all Embassy Suites’ hotels is the complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast, and Buffalo was no exception.

By the time our family made it down to breakfast (they like to sleep in), there were long lines at the buffet and omelet stations, but the friendly attendant directed us to the Della Terra restaurant where there was a second buffet and no lines.

As mentioned, there is an on-site restaurant at the Embassy Suites Buffalo; the Della Terra that specializes in northern Italian cuisine.  We did not dine in the restaurant, but ordered some tasty flatbread pizzas from the room service menu that were prepared in the Della Terra.

Of course the other Embassy Suites differentiator is their complimentary evening reception, and the Embassy Suites Buffalo offered a surprisingly healthy spread with fruit, vegetables, hummus, chips, and more along with beer, wine, and non-alcoholic family friendly drinks.  This reception was a nice way to unwind after touring Buffalo all day, and before making our way to dinner.

Amenities, Pool, and Spa

Embassy Suites Buffalo has a fully-enclosed indoor pool and whirlpool hot tub with glowing LED light effects.  The pool is on the smaller side, but adequate to let the little ones burn some energy.

Next to the pool is a 24 hour fitness center with treadmills, stationary bikes, and a few weights to maintain your workout regimens.  Surprisingly, there is also a full service salon and day spa located on the second floor.

The Embassy Suites Buffalo makes a fantastic home base for a family to explore downtown Buffalo.  Less than a mile from the newly opened Canalside Entertainment District, families can enjoy the free concerts, plays, and festivals; water bikes in summer and ice bikes in winter; or explore the historic ships in the Naval and Military Park.  After a day of touring the region, the family will appreciate the snacks at the evening reception before settling into your comfortable, over-sized suite.  Fuel up in the morning at the complementary breakfast for your next day of Western New York adventuring.
