Creative twists on traditional barbecue, unique beers and great music – SeaWorld Bands, Brew, and BBQ 2016 is fun for all!
If you haven’t been planning to visit SeaWorld Orlando, you should definitely add it to your list because their latest event – Bands, Brew and BBQ is a fun time and not to be missed. As the weather in Florida warms up, there are few better ways to spend it than outside and SeaWorld gives you a chance to have a perfect day strolling around their park and the event.
We chatted with SeaWorld Executive Chef Hector Colon about the food he helped create for this year’s Bands, Brew and BBQ event. Like many events, the planning starts as soon as they launch the current year. Chef Colon said he’s already thinking about what he wants to do even better for next year!
Chef Colon’s big goal with the food he created for this year’s Bands, Brew and BBQ was to take a twist on traditional barbeque staples and to make them theme park friendly. Well, I can tell you they’re theme park friendly AND delicious.
One of the definite standouts from the food is Chef Colon’s playful take on Chicken and Waffles, where he uses a waffle cone to take the place of a tradition waffle. After loading up the bottom with creamy jalapeno mashed potatoes, the chef loads up the top with chicken and then tops it all with honey mustard. And if chicken isn’t your thing, don’t worry – you can get a brisket version too. We saw tons of people walking around the park with them, so they’re definitely a crowd favorite.
Of course, you can’t forget dessert either and the apple cobbler in a waffle cone is fantastic. Still warm from the pan and topped with whipped cream – it’s phenomenal!
Additionally, Chef Colon made a play on the walking taco and has brought his own version of Frito pie to SeaWorld! This one is not only portable, but topped with ground beef and your favorite taco toppings, it’s definitely one kids could enjoy!
But don’t worry – this isn’t all the food that’s available to you. Every SeaWorld dining location has their own unique barbeque dish they are serving for this event. No matter where you are in the park, you can catch the flavor of barbeque!
Of course, we can’t fail to mention the brews – and there are tons of options to choose from! You can opt to sample 10 beers, which will run you $30, or you can combine this with food and even front row concert access for additional fees. There’s plenty of seating, as well as live music and dancing, making it the perfect way to spend an afternoon. There were quite a few adults enjoying a drink while their kids danced to the cha-cha-slide or the locomotion along with SeaWorld’s dancers!
We couldn’t fail to mention the bands either! Each day’s concert is included in your SeaWorld park admission!
The Bayside Stadium is such a great venue – you get cooling breezes and all of SeaWorld park is laid out behind you – it’s just a beautiful site. They also have lawn seating off to the side of the stadium and many families caught the concert there so kids could run and tumble in the grass while watching the show. Time definitely passed quickly as we kicked back and enjoyed the show.
On the day we attended, we caught Scotty McCreery of American Idol fame. He definitely brought a ton of energy, excitement and kept it country for his nearly hour and a half set. This would definitely be a great time to grab a plate of barbeque, sit down and enjoy some quality music, which many people around us did.
If music isn’t your thing, don’t worry! There’s a classic car show to catch and some gorgeous Harley Davidson motorcycles on display. If you’re looking for a quieter venue, the USO Family Garden offers seating, as well as entertainment stations for youngsters.
SeaWorld has definitely gone above and beyond to “plus” your basic theme park day ticket here. You get access to amazing food and brews, plus a free concert with high quality performers – what’s not to love! It only gets better if you purchase an annual pass – you get a 30% discount on certain items! If you’re on the fence about an annual pass, you can purchase a ticket and then later apply that days admission to the purchase of a pass! And SeaWorld has tons of great events coming up that you shouldn’t miss out on!
Bands, Brew and BBQ runs through March 6, 2016, and access to the event is included in your SeaWorld ticket.
