Restaurant Review: Water Street Landing Dinner and a View Near Niagara Falls

For Mother’s Day we treated my wife to the beauty, blooms, and butterflies of the Niagara Parks, but of course we couldn’t end the day with her back in the kitchen.  So we treated her to dinner and a view at Water Street Landing just north of Niagara Falls in Historic Lewiston, New York home of the Freedom Crossing, the last stop on the Underground Railroad.

Water Street Landing

Nothing relaxes my wife more than a view of the water, be it a lake or the ocean.  At this point, north of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Power Project, the expanse of the river is wide and flat and glistens in the sun.  Water Street Landing optimizes its location with dining rooms overlooking the Niagara River.

Water Street Landing

Water Street Landing has two dining rooms, the River SideBar with BBQ ribs, burgers, and pub food, and the fireside dining room where we ate.  The menu was upscale with steaks, seafood, and a little bit of pasta.

We started with an appetizer course that included a Thai pear salad and Tuscan flatbread (pictured below).  The Thai salad was delicious with poached pears soaked in plum brandy with a dressing that included a hint Wasabi spice.  The Tuscan flatbread had a Middle Eastern flavor with its hummus and goat cheese topped with sun dried tomatoes and greens.  Our Mother’s Day dinner was off to a great start.

We chatted and gazed out the window at the boats floating by while waiting on our entrees.  Everyone opted for the “turf” portion of the menu: prime rib for my wife, our daughters had filet mignon over mashed potatoes and chicken on homemade, hand cut pasta, and I opted for the grass fed bison strip (pictured below).

I was curious to try something a little different, and the bison strip did not disappoint.  The meat was a little tougher and gamier than a regular steak, but had a unique flavor that was a nice change from beef.  The mustard seed on the red potatoes gave them an Irish pub taste.  Overall, the entrees were very, very good, and everyone in the family was satisfied with their choices.

At this point, we were full, but simply could not resist the maple bourbon pecan pie a la mode offered for dessert.

Water Street Landing

We left the Water Street Landing pleasantly sated and relaxed, and thought it was the perfect cap on our Niagara Falls Mother’s Day.  We’d definitely recommend this restaurant for those looking to get away from the crowds near Niagara Falls.  They have something for everyone, casual or fancy, and it’s all done well.
