We’re a month out from the opening day of CARS 3 and the stars have hit the road (literally) on the CARS 3 Road to the Races publicity tour around the country. The CARS 3 Road to the Races tour is open to the public, though, so get your coveralls on and join the pit crew!
From now through January 25th, Mack trucks will be transporting Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez, and Jackson Storm from New York City (through Sunday, May 7th) all the way across the country to the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA. Not just any Mack trucks, though – one of these trucks is a Cinetransformer!
Inside that truck is a mobile theater! We were treated to an introduction to CARS 3, which included clips from the director, Brian Fee, and even from Disney’s Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter and, then, we saw the trailer. What a crazy scene! I can’t wait to see how it turns out when CARS 3 opens on June 16th!
The fun didn’t stop there, though. As is customary with racers, this CARS 3 Road to the Races tour has several sponsors exhibiting at the expo. Each sponsor’s booth has a special activity for the pit crew. In alphabetical order, here are the sponsors and their activities:
Alamo Rent-A-Car brings out the artist in the visiting pit crews with a giant coloring mural (with a souvenir pack of colored pencils to take home).
Coppertone (this one just might be my favorite) invites pit crews to practice changing the tires on a racing car stand-in, with a photo-sharing opportunity and a sample of sunscreen for visiting mechanics.
Crest and Oral B provide a digital postcard opportunity and the Piston Cup prize wheel with CARS-themed oral care products as prizes.
Dole is offering “high-octane” smoothies, made from fresh Dole fruits and vegetables, with a recipe card (click here for the entire collection), so you can make them yourself at home.
Mattel has an interactive play area with a gravity drop and new CARS play sets to imagine with, plus a display of die-cast vehicles from the CARS franchise.
NASCAR’s Acceleration Nation teaches apprentice mechanics about the three Ds of auto racing (drag, downforce, and draft) and offers a paper race car to cut out and assemble.
As I mentioned above, three of the CARS 3 stars are on this ROAD TO THE RACES tour and visiting pit crews will be able to take pictures with each of them. No public interviews, though, so please don’t ask.
The next stop on the CARS 3 Road to the Races tour is Washington, D.C., on May 10th, and then on across America. The stars will be hitting the red carpet at Disneyland on June 10th, before continuing on through L.A. and San Jose, then finishing up at the Sonoma Raceway the weekend of June 24-25. The full schedule of cities is here and you can find more information about the Road to the Races here.
