VIDEO EPCOT 35th Anniversary Celebration at Walt Disney World

On Sunday October 1, 2017, the Epcot 35th Anniversary celebration took place at the Walt Disney World theme park. If October 1st seems like a familiar anniversary date, it may be because that is also the date Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. So while Epcot was turning 35, the Magic Kingdom was also turning 46. Although, The Magic Kingdom certainly received the short end of the stick because 46 is just as nifty a number. In 4 years, when the Magic Kingdom turns 50, we should have something incredible to talk about.

Epcot 35

At 10:01 am (yeah, not 10 but 10:01) a special celebration was held at the Fountain View Stage. It began with Mariachi Cobre from the Mexico Pavilion and ended with a gorgeous new medley of vintage Epcot songs from the A Capella group, Voices Of Liberty.

It was amazing to think that Epcot, no longer Epcot Center, has been around for 35 years and it was amazing to be there for the celebration. While part of me, hangs on to those early days of Horizons, Universe of Energy and World of Motion, I really look forward to what is to come.

We know that Ratatouille is going into the France Pavilion in World Showcase and a new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will be going into Future World. Popular rumor also has something big in store for Journey into Imagination, and we do know from D23 that the whole Epcot entrance is undergoing a big change. As George Kalogridis, President of the Walt Disney World Resort said yesterday, Epcot is in for a Renaissance – albeit perhaps slightly after they are done with the bulk of Disney’s Hollywood Studios enhancements. Either way, the future is bright and we are all still Tomorrow’s Child!

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
