Earlier this summer, my daughter and I took advantage of an Aer Lingus’ Dublin stopover deal to fly FREE to London. But where to stay? In real estate they say location is everything, and we simply couldn’t beat Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel’s location. Situated on the south bank of the Thames, just a 5 minute walk across the Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (and I don’t mean the Steelers quarterback). Check out the photo below for a glimpse of the view from our room, and continue reading for the full review of the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London.
This newer hotel sits almost on top of the southern terminus of the Westminster Bridge, with views looking straight down the span to London icons Big Ben and Parliament. As a conference and meeting venue, the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel has more of a sterile, corporate feel walking into the lobby. Lots of cold hard surfaces, and the size is simply massive. We stood in line for the check-in desk, and once we reached the front the staff welcomed us and assured us we had a fantastic room.
Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is surrounded by London’s iconic attractions. Yes, as a conference hotel, you can expect lots of business travelers attending meetings, but that doesn’t mean the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is not family-friendly.
The studio rooms of the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London were incredibly spacious, perfect for my daughter and I, and a great fit for families. Our studio featured one bedroom with a king sized bed, and a living room with fold-out queen sized sleeper sofa. Each room had its own flat-screen TV and entertainment area. The two sleeping areas were separated by a small hallway with kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchenette had a microwave, mini-fridge, teapot, and dishes. The little bit of separation was just what my teenage daughter and I needed for our own privacy – and for her to get some escape from my snoring.
The beds were comfortable, and there was no need to book two rooms for the family. The studio has plenty of room for a family up to four people provided the kids are young and don’t mind sharing a bed.
The bathroom was a surprisingly good size, and had a separate shower and tub. The tub would be especially handy for families with young children who need to have a nightly bath before bedtime. Elemis bath products, robes, and slippers were supplied in the room.
We had plenty of ports and plugs for charging our devices, and there is complimentary high speed Wi-Fi found throughout the hotel.
The fitness facility takes up the lower level of the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, and included cardiovascular equipment, 50 foot pool, and full-service Mandara Spa. There are separate bathrooms and changing areas located on this level.
There are numerous dining options at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge including the Brasserie Joël and Ichi Sushi & Sashimi Bar. The 1WB Lounge & Patisserie offers lighter bites, and sandwiches with freshly prepared Italian coffee can be found at the espressamente illy coffee bar. Brasserie Joël is the most family-friendly restaurant, has children’s menus available, and is where breakfast is served each morning. Speaking of breakfast, make sure when you book your room to get a rate that includes breakfast. Brasserie Joël hosts a large breakfast buffet with eggs, meats, pastries, cereals, everything your family could want to start the day. In fact, at certain times of the year, you can even find a “Family Getaway Package” where kids eat free at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge that includes free breakfast for everyone, and children eat lunch or dinner from children’s menu for free in main restaurant with parents’ order. A great money-saving deal for families.
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is within immediate walking distance to a number of London family-friendly attractions including: Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, West End theatre district, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Shrek’s Adventure, and Sea Life Aquarium.
In addition, the hotel sits right next to the Waterloo Underground station making all of London accessible.
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge was an ideally situated London hotel for our visit to the city. With rooms large enough for most families, and conveniently located to many key London attractions. Book a room with breakfast, and you will be set for a day of touring London, and if you have the means, upgrade to a room with an iconic view – either Big Ben or the London Eye. You won’t be disappointed.
