Gaylord Palms ICE! 2017 Has Warm Message of Peace

The Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida has always been a holiday destination for those seeking something different or in addition to offerings at the big theme parks.  Their most notable holiday offering is ICE! An elaborate, large area of the convention center transformed into a Winter Wonderland with towering and colorful ice sculptures. Usually, this display depicts scenes from whatever intellectual property they are partnered with for any given year. Last year was Peanuts, years prior it was Dreamworks movies. This year, there was no intellectual property associated with ICE! The theme was simply Christmas Around The World and how different cultures celebrate the season. And you know what? It was one of their best presentations yet! Continue for a VIDEO recap of Gaylord Palms ICE 2017.

I thought I would not enjoy ICE! as much, without familiar characters to set the stage for me. It occurred to me, while walking around the 9 degree experience, that the theme of World Peace, was stronger, more colorful and pleasing than anything I could remember. Just as I was thinking this, I overheard at least two more individuals saying phrases like “I don’t miss the characters” and “this is the best year yet.” Had you asked me prior, I would have predicted the absence of a movie tie-in would have been a critical error. Nope!

In addition to the chilly ICE! presentation (don’t worry about the 9 degrees, they provide you with a parka), there is a show called Cirque Dreams Unwrapped in the center atrium. A circus-esque performance of stunts and acrobatics. It’s not your usual holiday fare, but it is enjoyable enough to suggest a viewing. I find the music a bit bizarre for a holiday show but, they are going for “different”.  Tickets are not required but there is a small charge for guaranteed seating. Get there early to be assured a seat.

There is also a light show around a wonderfully large and tall Christmas tree in the atrium.

Gaylord Palms ICE!

The whole resort offers a perfect way to spend the night enjoying the holidays – for couples, singles and families. There really is something for everyone. Offerings of hot chocolate, coffee and restaurants surround you just about everywhere you go while on the property.  Other holiday attractions include snow tubing, visiting with Santa Claus, making crafts etc… each with a separate up-charge, so check out pricing and decide what is most important before heading out.

Gaylord Palms ICE!

All in all – ICE! and more importantly, the holidays at Gaylord Palms should be added to your TO DO list this season!

About John Saccheri

John Saccheri has been rooted in the Disney culture from childhood. John only had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World once, at the age of 5. After returning home, he never stopped talking about it, yearning to return. His parents were worried about this “obsession,” but John began working at the age of 12 with a focus on saving up for the next Disney trip. He was able to visit Disney World at least once a year from 14 years old onward. Today, a successful entrepreneur, John was able to move from his hometown of Long Island, New York, to Central Florida to be close to the Mouse. Going to the parks still seems like a fantasy to him!
