Top Ten Reasons to Visit Knott’s Merry Farm During the Holidays

Bells are ringing, children are singing, and Christmas has come to Knott’s Berry Farm! The theme park decks the halls and changes its name to Knott’s Merry Farm for the holiday season, from November 17, 2017 through January 7, 2018.  Following are our Top Ten reasons to visit Knott’s Merry Farm this year, from 10 to 1. Read on for pictures and video from the many holiday shows and offerings throughout the park.

10. An Old-Fashioned Christmas – 19th Century Charm

The atmosphere at Knott’s Merry Farm is a little different than your typical holiday display, as it evokes an 1850’s holiday. The 160-year-old school house, a barn, a saloon and rides in a horse-drawn wagon all bring you back to a simpler time.

The intimate Bird Cage Theatre hosts two holiday plays, “A Christmas Carol” and “Gift of the Magi.” Take a look at the performance of “Gift of the Magi.”

9. A Can-Can Christmas

Who knew you could mix Christmas and Can-Can dancers?? With beautiful red and green outfits and upbeat holiday tunes, you can Can-Can too! Here’s a preview of the fun Calico Saloon Christmas Show that plays once every hour or so during Knott’s Merry Farm.

8. The Merry Atmosphere

Christmas music plays throughout the park and Christmas Carolers sing in the streets. As you wander around Knott’s, every facade boasts holly and red ribbons. Even the characters in window displays are dressed for the holidays.

7. Cute Holiday Snoopy Merchandise

Even if you’re not that into PEANUTS, there’s no denying that Snoopy is the cutest thing since Hello Kitty. What’s cuter than Snoopy? Snoopy in a Christmas sweater! You can also light up your holidays with a Christmas bulb necklace and Santa hats a-plenty.

6. Peppermint Cotton Candy

Santa’s Christmas Cabin contains Christmas favorite food and drink. One of our favorites was the peppermint cotton candy. Sweet and melt-in-your-mouth good, with that fabulous bite of peppermint flavor.

5. Ice Show

I adore old-fashioned Christmas music. Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, Bing Crosby. Well the Merry Christmas, Snoopy! Ice Show combines these wonderful songs with ice-skating and ice-dancing in the Charles M. Schulz Theatre. The show features cameos from the PEANUTS gang, while Snoopy even straps on his skates and joins in the fun. What could be better? This is a can’t-miss show taking place 3 times a day during Knott’s Merry Farm. Here’s a preview:

4. Snow and Glow in Ghost Town

Just when you think you can’t have any more fun or see any more shows at Knott’s Merry Farm, head to Ghost Town Main Street to soak up seven minutes of holiday cheer as the streets light up to holiday music. I was delighted to hear one of my favorite film melodies: “Somewhere in my Memory” from HOME ALONE, by the incomparable John Williams. Enjoy!

3. A PEANUTS Guide to Christmas

Located in the open air Camp Snoopy Theater in Camp Snoopy, A PEANUTS Guide to Christmas is geared towards little kids, but adults can enjoy the snarky humor of Lucy any day! This was my favorite show at Knott’s, because “The 12 Days of Christmas” as sung by the PEANUTS gang is the most hilarious thing you’ll hear all year. What do you think Charlie Brown gets? Listen and find out:

2. Santa’s Christmas Cabin

Santa’s Christmas Cabin is the coziest, merriest place in Knott’s Merry Farm. It’s a wooden Wilderness Dance Hall that’s been transformed into a food and drink festival. Along one wall, Santa sits in his big arm chair by the fire, with a Christmas Tree and toy train completing the look. Your family can take your picture with Santa! Around the other walls are various food and drink stalls – egg nog, cookies and milk, tamales, peppermint hot cocoa…

1. Chocolate-Covered Cheesecake on a Stick

I’m not a cheesecake fan. Even at The Cheesecake Factory, I’ll order the chocolate cake for dessert. But that all changed when I bit into my first Chocolate-Covered Cheesecake on a Stick. They dip it in a chocolate fountain before your eyes. The chocolate shell is covered with little bits of peppermint (if you choose) and perfectly marries with the smooth cheesecake on top of a graham cracker crust. It’s almost like s’mores, but replace the marshmallow with the much more substantial cheesecake slice! The perfect end to a Knott’s Merry Farm day.

So join in the merriment and head to Knott’s Merry Farm for a fabulous holi-DAY.
