STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Home Edition and Viewing Party

Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI  is available now digitally or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and Blu-ray disc.  They say this is the first Disney home edition title available in both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos immersive audio, delivering a transformative audio and visual experience.  All I know is that I’m excited to have my favorite childhood characters Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Yoda, R2-D2 and C-3PO at home to add to my collection of Star Wars movies.

It’s obvious director Rian Johnson put his heart and soul into STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, and that’s even more evident in the home edition.  In addition to the typical director’s audio commentary, THE LAST JEDI home edition includes a feature-length documentary called “The Director and the Jedi.”  This two hour bonus feature is no-holds barred as Mark Hamill voices his concern over Rian Johnson’s handling of Luke Skywalker, and the director explains his unique interpretation of the Force.  Each of the 14 deleted scenes also include an optional commentary by Rian Johnson as to the role of the scene in the film and why it needed to be cut.

Other bonus features include:

  • Balance of the Force – Explore the mythology of the Force and why Rian Johnson chose to interpret its role in such a unique way.
  • Lighting the Spark: Creating the Space Battle – Get a close-up look at the epic space battle, from the sounds that help propel the action, through the practical and visual effects, to the characters who bring it all to life.
  • Snoke and Mirrors – Motion capture and Star Wars collide as the filmmakers take us through the detailed process of creating the movie’s malevolent master villain.
  • Showdown on Crait – Break down everything that went into creating the stunning world seen in the movie’s final confrontation, including the interplay between real-word locations and visual effects, reimagining the walkers, designing the crystal foxes, and much more.

And what do you do when you get a new Star Wars movie in the house?  Pop the popcorn, bake some Wookiee cookies, pour a glass of blue (or now even green) milk, snuggle under your Star Wars blankie and have a movie night!

Of course with all the extras and bonus features, you may just need a whole weekend to watch it all.  So if you find your family needed some extra snacks along the way, give these galactic recipes a try.

It’s no secret that STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI caused division in the Star Wars community, between Mark Hamill and Rian Johnson, the fans, and even our family.  However, watching the in depth bonus features available on this disc will give everyone a appreciation for Rian Johnson’s attention to detail, deep passion for story telling, and reverence for the Star Wars universe.  Fans may find themselves coming around, and may even be brought to tears like Mark Hamill was when reunited on set with Yoda.
