Disney Junior’s FANCY NANCY Aims to be C’est Magnifique

Disney Junior’s latest show FANCY NANCY debuts this Friday, July 13. Based on the New York Times bestselling book series by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, the animated family comedy centers around six-year-old Nancy, a high-spirited young girl whose zest and enthusiasm for all that is exquisite – including language, nature, art and color – transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.  During the #AntManAndTheWaspEvent, we had a tea party with Executive Producer/Director Jamie Mitchell and Story Editor Krista Tucker who gave us the inside scoop on the show.

Jamie Mitchell said, Disney was interested in FANCY NANCY for about 10 years, and the book sat on Nancy Kanter’s desk for many years.  Nancy Kanter is executive vice president, Content and Creative Strategy, for Disney Channels Worldwide and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide. Kanter said,

“A creator and true optimist, Nancy is a relatable, imperfect character who exemplifies the problem-solving power of imagination through the comical situations she gets herself into. We look forward to the series’ premiere and sharing even more heartfelt stories that showcase Nancy’s creative endeavors and her unwavering belief that she can accomplish her grand ideas while encouraging those around her to do the same.”

Krista Tucker told us Disney has only adapted two of the FANCY NANCY books directly, and most of the stories in the series are original.  As Jamie Mitchell and Krista Tucker are both parents, they know families watch the shows together, and they wanted to create a show that parents can watch and hear and get a kick out of well.

Excited to experience what the magnificent world has to offer, Nancy uses ingenuity and resourcefulness to exemplify that even if life doesn’t always go as planned, it’s important to make the most of each day and encourage others to do the same.  An important theme of FANCY NANCY is that kids’ voices matter, and they are more powerful than they know.  Both Jamie Mitchell and Krista Tucker talked about how they hope the show empowers kids.

Geared towards kids ages 2-7, each FANCY NANCY episode is comprised of two 11-minute stories that showcase themes of self-expression, originality and love of family. Music also plays an important role in the series, with almost every episode featuring new original songs showcasing a variety of musical styles ranging from pop and jazz to big band, classical and swing.

Of course, any good, self-respecting, Disney show will have an accompanying toy line, and FANCY NANCY is no exception. JAKKS Pacific is offering a full line of toys and products excited to help kids play out the magnifique adventures of Nancy.  From friendship dolls to gorgeous interactive dolls, stylish accessories to role-play items, JAKKS Pacific’s line of products, inspired by FANCY NANCY will be available starting with the Friday, July 13 premiere.
