When I was young, and I began to appreciate Star Wars for what it was, I wanted to be able to create my own adventure in the Star Wars universe. Face off against the dark side (or Resistance), enjoy the delicacies in the universe, and of course have my very own lightsaber! Thanks to Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, you can now live your own Star Wars adventure AND make your very own lightsaber inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge now open at the Disneyland Resort and opening August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
Now that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is open in Disneyland, visitors to the Black Spire Outpost can find Savi’s Workshop where they can build their very own custom-built lightsaber. However, you will not find a big sign saying you can build your own lightsaber here because the First Order has landed in Black Spire Outpost, and the Gatherers of Savi’s shop have gone into hiding. Before entering the workshop, you need to pay 200 credits ($200 plus tax) in order to enter. There are no discounts available to Annual Passholders or others. At this point, the builder will also decide what theme to go with for the design. The themes are as follows:

I, being a fan of the Sith, had to go for Power and Control. Once that decision has been made, you (eventually) head into the workshop.
Inside, the Gatherers explain why you’re here, tell the origins of the lightsaber, and illuminate the kyber crystal – the mysterious material used to ignite the lightsaber blade color. You can choose between blue, green, purple, or red. If you end up wanting a different (or additional) crystal after your experience, you can purchase more in the nearby Dok-Ondar Den of Antiquities. Next, its time to create your hilt based on theme you chose earlier. You’ll take your kyber crystal, and place it into the hilt’s center core (which can be very challenging.)
Once you’ve assembled your lightsaber hilt, the Gatherers place them into the “crystal stabilization” chamber. Before, the final step, you are greeted by a familiar voice. I won’t spoil who it is here (but if you are eager please feel to watch the full video of the experience below.)
Finally, it is time! Ignite your lightsaber and see what you have created. While some may find this overall experience to be boring, quick, and expensive, I found (as a Star Wars nerd) this to be the most memorable and emotional experience I will ever have on the planet of Battu. The lightsaber itself is extremely high end in terms of material and very durable. This is NOT the same material used in the build your own lightsaber at the gift shops elsewhere in the parks. This is heavy, durable, and metal! You get exactly what you are paying for!
Savi’s Lightsaber shop is definitely an experience I will treasure forever! Below you’ll find video of the full experience. When I went, I was unable to film, however they allowed us to film when I went back to Galaxy’s Edge with a friend!
