Verbolten: Double Launch Roller Coaster Coming to Busch Gardens Virginia Spring 2012

In spring 2012, Busch Gardens Virginia will open a roller coaster called “Verbolten” in time for the summer season.  The new high speed coaster features two electromagnetic launches (mag launch) as well as themed indoor and outdoor sections.  The ride is set in the Oktoberfest section of the park that has received extensive renovations since the close of “The Big Bad Wolf” coaster in 2009.  Continue after the break for Busch Gardens’ video describing the new attraction.

A German tourist center serves as the backdrop for the ride’s entrance.  Guests are whisked through a tourist trip driving experience on the Autobahn until “something goes terribly wrong” sending the train into the verboten (i.e., forbidden) Black Forest.

In the video below, Larry Giles, Vice President of Design and Engineering for Busch Gardens Virginia, said Verbolten will have a 1G mag launch to start the ride, and fans the old “Big Bad Wolf” coaster, will appreciate Verbolten’s 90 foot drop along the water followed by a series of twists and turns before returning to the loading platform… I mean, “tourist center.”

Verbolten will reside in the park’s newly redesigned Oktoberfest village, joining Mäch Tower which opened in August 2011.  Verbolten’s predecessor, the “Big Bad Wolf”, debuted in 1984, and used the natural hills and valleys of the park’s “Black Forest” region to accentuate the ride.

“The Big Bad Wolf’s” signature thrill came when the train, suspended underneath the track, sped down a hill and swung riders out over the river.

“The Big Bad Wolf” closed in 2009 after its 25th anniversary season.

Busch Gardens is located 3 miles east of historic Williamsburg, VA, and has been voted “Most Beautiful Theme Park” by the National Amusement Park Historical Association every year since 1990.  The 100 acre European themed park is home to 50 rides and attractions including the Griffon, Apollo’s Chariot, Alpengeist, and Loch Ness Monster roller coasters.  Busch Gardens Virginia opens on Saturday, March 24, 2012.  I’m looking forward to the new coaster addition to Busch Gardens Virginia.  How about you?  Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.  For more travel news and features, be sure to follow Adventures by Daddy on twitter and “like” our facebook page too.
