Ice Age Returns to Screen with The Simpsons and Fun Photo App

The fourth edition of the Ice Age films, Ice Age: Continental Drift, opens Friday, July 13, 2012.  The film has not really hit the radar for our family, and our daughters haven’t expressed interest in seeing it.  However, when I heard a new Simpson’s short was debuting ahead of the film, it got my attention.  Is it possible to be more interested in the short ahead of the feature instead of the feature itself?  Continue reading for more details on “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” a trailer for the Simpson’s short, and an Ice Age themed cell phone photo app to play with.

“Ice Age: Continental Drift” features the three main characters we’ve come to know from the first three films including Manny the mammoth (Ray Romano), Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo), and Diego the saber tooth tiger (Denis Leary).  Queen Latifah was added in one of the previous movies to voice Ellie the mammoth wife of Manny, and now Jennifer Lopez gets in the mix as a female saber tooth tiger (Shira).

From the film’s description:

Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences – a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid.  In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.

OK, now on to the Simpsons.  It’s hard to believe it’s already been 5 years since “The Simpsons Movie” was in theaters, but they are back on the big screen in a 4 and ½ minute 3D short titled “The Longest Daycare” that’s long on Maggie and short on dialogue.

Want to know more about the Simpsons short?  Then check out this trailer, but don’t blink, you might miss it… it’s billed as “The Summer’s Shortest Trailer” which is probably appropriate for a 4 and ½ minute film.

Also, ahead of the debut of “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” there is a free augmented reality photo app created by GoldRun.  Users can take photos of friends and family and add characters from “Ice Age: Continental Drift.”  You can download the free app now from the App Store or on Google Play for Android.

So what do you think?  Are you looking forward to the newest “Ice Age” movie?  Are you excited about the Simpsons return to the big screen?  Do you plan on posting photos of your cat hissing at Diego and Shira?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.  For more family movie news, be sure to follow Adventures by Daddy on twitter and “like” our facebook page too.
