ParaNorman Opens in Theaters Friday, August 17, 2012

This post will have official information from Focus Features on the upcoming stop-motion animated comedy thriller ParaNorman, opening in theaters on Friday, August 17, 2012.  ParaNorman is created by the animation company Laika – makers of 2009 film Coraline, and follows Norman, a misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead.  The film promotes a positive message of embracing those qualities that make each of us unique and not to shy away from our gifts,  hence the tagline, “You don’t become a hero by being normal.”  Continue reading for more news, trailers, images, and behind the scenes videos for the film.

From Focus Features Press Release:

In ParaNorman, a small town comes under siege by zombies.  Who can it call?  Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead.  In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse.  But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

The film is rated PG and is the second stop-motion animated release from the makers of CoralineParaNorman is directed by Sam Fell (“The Tale of Despereaux,” “Flushed Away”) and Chris Butler (who also served as writer).  Leslie Mann, John Goodman, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck and Kodi Smit-McPhee lend their voices to the film.

Take a look at the video below for a peek at how the puppet of Norman is hand-made and brought to life through the artistry, creativity and imagination of craftsman and animators.  I’ve always been impressed with stop-motion animation, but maybe even more so after watching this video.
