Mickey’s Christmas Carol Told on Magic Kingdom’s Main Street, U.S.A.

All Photos by Scott Nadeau

Twas’ the night before Christmas… OK, twas’ the day before Christmas, and all through the house, maybe you’re running around like a cat chases a mouse…  Whether you’re spending your Christmas at home or traveling, I hope you are able to spend time with those you love during this special time.  In the spirit of the holiday, I wanted to share Scott Nadeau’s photos from Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom all dressed up for Christmas.  Just like many city department stores decorate their windows with elaborate holiday displays, the windows of Main Street’s Emporium are decorated to tell the tale of Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

Entering the Magic Kingdom, we are greeted by Main Street’s Town Square and an elaborate Christmas tree guarded by Toy Soldiers.

Peering beyond the Toy Soldiers are the shops of Main Street, U.S.A., and the Emporium that contains the largest collection of souvenirs in the Magic Kingdom.  However, you don’t have to spend one cent to be entertained, for the windows tell the classic story of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” but with the Disney twist.

We start with Nephew Fred (Donald Duck) visiting Uncle Ebenezer Scrooge (Scrooge McDuck) working away in his counting house with Bob Cratchit (Mickey Mouse).  However, Scrooge is in no mood for Fred’s Christmas greetings… “Bah, humbug!”

Later that evening, Scrooge is visited by Jacob Marley’s Ghost (Goofy), who foretell’s of three visitors who will call upon Scrooge during the night.

The Ghost of Christmas Past (Jiminy Cricket) takes Scrooge to a happier time when he enjoyed Christmas and was engaged to Belle (Daisy Duck).

The Ghost of Christmas Present (Willie the Giant) has an elaborate feast outside of Scrooge’s bedroom.

The Ghost of Christmas Future (Pete) tells Scrooge it is his own future he is seeing in the cemetery – to which Scrooge exclaims, “I’ll CHANGE!”

In the end, Scrooge sees the error of his ways, and begins to make amends – starting with the Cratchits.  “Merry Christmas, Tiny Tim,” says Scrooge.  “And God bless us, everyone” replies Tiny Tim.
