KID Review: “Doc McStuffins” Debuts in Disney Jr. Appisode Format

Recently, Disney Junior released episodes of its popular television series “Doc McStuffins” as appisodes for the Disney Junior Appisode app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch (two episodes are available for $4.99).  For those not familiar, Doc McStuffins is an original animated series about a little girl who can talk to and heal stuffed animals and toys.  The show airs daily on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.  The Disney Junior Appisode app offers an interactive viewing experience, allowing kids to touch, tap, swipe, tilt, shake and talk their way through various activities embedded into full episodes of some of their favorite Disney Junior shows.  In addition to “Doc McStuffins,” the Disney Junior Appisode app features Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as well as Jake and the Never Land Pirates.  When Disney asked us to test out the Disney Jr. Appisode app, I thought my daughter Evie (age 12) could give a better “kid perspective” than I.  So continue reading to see whether she thought “Doc McStuffins” Disney Junior Appisode app will entertain your child.

Doc McStuffins Rescue Ronda Ready For Takeoff and A Bad Case of the Pricklethorns “Appisode” Review

Review by Evie Parfitt

I recently reviewed the “Doc McStuffins” Disney Junior Appisode app, and it was really fun!  Even though it was meant for younger kids, like 5 or 6 (I’m currently 12), it was still entertaining.  Basically, the “Appisode” is an interactive episode of the popular Disney Junior Show, “Doc McStuffins” where the player can help Doc cure her toys’ ailments.  The stories are definitely unique.  In the first part, Rescue Ronda falls into a bush and the player must help Doc figure out why she can’t fly.  You have to tilt your phone (or iPad) back and forth to help Ronda fly.  Later on, tweezers are used to remove a twig from Ronda’s propellers (spoiler alert!).

In the second part, Boppy, Doc’s little brother’s toy, keeps getting holes.  Doc, her brother, and her brother’s friend have to investigate why.  It turns out that Boppy keeps getting pricked with the rose bush, so Boppy get’s some band-aids and a pump up, and he’s all better!

There’s also some fun little mini-games like trying to rescue Chilly from the basketball hoop with Rescue Ronda,

and trying to knock down Boppy.

The graphics are amazing, it’s not cheap looking at all, it really looks like a TV episode. I hope I can review another app soon!

Editor’s (i.e., Dad’s) Note: While the Disney Junior Appisode app is free, each show currently costs $4.99.  You get both Doc McStuffins “appisodes” for the $4.99, but you probably want to help your children with the downloading – especially if your iTunes account is already linked to your credit card.

Thank you Evie for your “hard work” playing games for the website.  For more family entertainment news and reviews, be sure to follow Adventures by Daddy on twitter and “like” our facebook page too.
