Known around the world as one of California’s premiere beaches, Laguna Beach is a destination the whole family can enjoy.  Located in Orange County, just 30 minutes south of Disneyland, this small but richly cultured town caters to every type of traveler.  Continue reading to see why Laguna Beach could be the perfect spot for your family’s Spring vacation.

Paddleboarding in Laguna Beach

From the press release:

It’s the perfect time of year to sink your toes in the sand, embark on a whale watching excursion, go hiking and biking, or luxuriate in a seaside spa while the kids take a surf lesson … the possibilities are endless. We’ll even throw in sunny skies and warm temperatures at no additional charge.

Suggested itineraries for “children of all ages” include:

The Little Ones: Explore tide pools; watch dolphins and whales up close; climb on playground equipment at Main Beach; and visit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center to view rehabilitating seals and sea lions.

Tweens and Teens: Take a surf, skimboard or paddleboard lesson; explore coves with a kayak tour to view marine life up close; and hop aboard a whale watching excursion for an art lesson in the wild with Wyland.

The Young at Heart: Start your day with laughter yoga on the beach; hike the canyon or take a bike tour of quaint neighborhoods; and unleash your creativity with a Sawdust Studio Art Class, or a Watercolors on the Beach tide pool workshop.

If you’re an art lover, there are more than 80 works of public art where you can take a self-guided tour (stop by the Visitors Center to pick up a brochure with five colored geographic districts to choose from). Laguna Art Museum, which specializes in California art, has two exhibits: Wayne Thiebaud: American Memories featuring food-themed artwork and ex•pose: dana harel, her first museum exhibition in the U.S. and a new series of work, “Between Dreams and Nightmares.” Then catch a performance of Stinky Kids The Musical, a youth theatre production at The Laguna Playhouse. Visit myriad fine and contemporary art galleries from North Gallery Row to Laguna Canyon to South Laguna. Browse 30+ art galleries on the First Thursdays Art Walk where you can meet the artists, enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, take advantage of free trolley service and visit Laguna Art Museum for no charge during the evening from 6pm-9pm.

Discover the walkable downtown together, where you can shop until you drop for surf-themed apparel, beach souvenirs, chic boutique wear and accessories, handcrafted jewelry and one-of-a-kind finds. Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, dine at a casual outdoor cafe, enjoy burgers and fries or pizza, then indulge in cupcakes, gelato, chocolate or ice cream at one of the specialty eateries.

If you bring your favorite pooch along, beaches and many hotels and restaurants are dog friendly. There’s even a dog park in Laguna Canyon, where pups can run off leash on a two-acre grassy lawn.
