Marvel’s Iron Man & Captain America: Heroes United Review

Available only on Digital HD, On-Demand, and Disney Movies Anywhere July 29th, 2014

MARVEL’S IRON MAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA: HEROES UNITED is the latest animated movie (at 1 hr and 10 minutes) featuring two of Marvel’s greatest superheroes teaming up once again to save the world. Captain America and Iron Man battle to keep the Red Skull and his henchman, Taskmaster, from unleashing an army of Hydra Brutes on the world. Throughout the movie, Cap’s calculated combat training and Iron Man’s improv fighting style butt heads, literally, and the two must learn to work together to survive. Towards the end we are treated to a surprise appearance by one of our favorite Marvel Super Heroes!

MARVEL’S IRON MAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA: HEROES UNITED is aimed at a younger male audience who, let’s face it, just want to see their favorite superhero fight. And fight they did. The film opens on a scene where Captain America and Iron Man are training to fight by fighting each other. That’s where the fighting began, and it didn’t end until the 71st minute of the movie. It was a little too much for my taste, and I found myself getting drowsy in the middle because of the redundancy. Really this movie could have been 30-45 minutes, and it would have been perfect. But for young boys who LOVE to fight and love superheroes, they will love it.

One of Marvel’s greatest attributes is definitely their humor (DC please take note). Humor is a part of every Marvel movie, and HEROES UNITED is no exception. Cap and Iron Man have a great rapport that carries the whole film. Their little digs at each other started in THE AVENGERS film and continue here. Writers Henry Gilroy and Brandon Auman show their STAR WARS passion through the many dialogue references.( Then again Henry Gilroy did write some of the best CLONE WARS episodes. )

The animation and art direction are top-notch. Every frame was a perfect screen shot. It wasn’t as stylized as say, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, but it did have a unique feel and tone that is quite noticeable. The voice actors nail their characters as heard in the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE actors.

The fact that HEROES UNITED is available for purchase on Disney Movies Anywhere App and iTunes makes it a great babysitter. Hand your tablet to your child and he will be engrossed for 71 minutes. The colors, action and Super Heroes are so dynamic it will keep them occupied in that world. Just be aware parents, when they are done they will want a ride to the nearest Toys R Us!

Hail Hydra– I mean Avengers Assemble!!!!!!
