The 2014 IAAPA Attractions Expo, which stands for International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, finished up recently at the Orange County Convention Center just outside of Orlando. It’s a place where buyers from the industry come to literally buy new attractions or seek out new entertainment concepts for their amusement parks etc. IAAPA is also where the industry recognizes the best new additions for the year with their annual Themed Entertainment Awards. Spoiler alert, Universal Orlando’s Diagon Alley won big! Continue reading for our collection of videos from the IAAPA Attractions Expo show floor to see what new rides and technologies may appear at theme parks next year.
Last year was my first year attending this event and I loved it [check out our video recap here]. New emerging technologies in video games, carnival games, simulators and even bounce houses were among the offerings. Just about everything was hands on; you could experience everything and not just see pretty pictures. Full size rides like the Air Race are built right on the convention floor awaiting riders. Turnkey food solutions like pizza and grease-less fryer French fries have samples handed out for your consideration.
Animatronics are everywhere. Suppliers are either trying to sell you ready made animatronics or show you what they can create for your specific situation. It’s not uncommon for someone to approach prospective buyers and say things like “this shooting gallery is on sale for $36,000 today.” I literally heard that and found it residing in my brain ever since LOL.
IAAPA is a feast for the mind and tummy. Heaven for a theme park fanatic and I can’t wait to see what they do next year. For more family travel news, reviews, and trip reports, be sure to follow Adventures by Daddy on Twitter and “like” our Facebook page, too.
