Six Flags Magic Mountain just unveiled it’s newest thrill ride, Twisted Colossus. The original classic wooden roller coaster Colossus, who has appeared in countless TV shows and films such as National Lampoon’s, Vacation, closed last year. It’s back with a vengeance renamed Twisted Colossus!
While on the surface, Twisted Colossus may seem like the classic roller coaster. But the saying, “Everything Old Becomes New Again” rings true here as this new ride is a completely different experience.
“It’s the best of nostalgia meeting innovation,” park President Bonnie Rabjohn said. “It’s still looks like Colossus, but I promise you, it’s not your daddy’s Colossus.”
Located in the newly themed area called the Screampunk District, Six Flags Magic Mountain converted the classic wooden coaster into a hybrid of wood meets steel that includes two barrel roll inversions and a first-of-its-kind “high five” element, where two trains pass through an overbanked turn facing each other with the illusion that riders can reach out and “high five” each other.
The nearly 5000-foot-long track combines both tracks of the former Colossus into a single track featuring two separate lift hills that creates a nearly vertical, 116-foot plunge.
And if you enjoyed that dive the first time, then guess what? You get to do it again.
Two lift hills, one ride.
Twisted Colossus makes many use of bunny hops and banking that creates lots and lots of air-time and awesome inversions during the 4 minute pure adrenaline experience.
“I think we hit mark this time, hands down” Rabjohn said.
Twisted Colossus opened to the public on Saturday May 23, 2015.
