Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon at Universal Orlando

“It’s just like the Harry Potter ride but Jimmy Fallon”  That’s how Jimmy Fallon described RACE THROUGH NEW YORK STARRING JIMMY FALLON a new ride debuting at Universal Orlando Resort in 2017.  The current host of The Tonight Show and former Saturday Night Live castmember did not offer many details on the attraction except to say it will be in 3D… or 4D… or possibly 8D.  The Jimmy Fallon attraction will be part of the Universal Studios Florida makeover that replaces three current attractions – Twister… Ride it Out, Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue and Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You!  Earlier this year Universal Orlando announced Fast and Furious – Supercharged would also open in 2017.  We’ll continue to update this post as more information becomes available, and you can watch the Jimmy Fallon announcement in the video below.

Grand opening date announced for Universal Orlando’s RACE THROUGH NEW YORK STARRING JIMMY FALLON – Thursday, April 6, 2017.   To celebrate the attraction’s Grand Opening, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will take the show on the road with tapings from Universal Orlando Resort from April 3 through 6. Additional details on celebrity guests and how to become a part of the show audience will be released over time.  Jimmy Fallon announced the opening date on his January 12th show (see video clip below), and promised that guests will “come out smelling like pizza.”

Update November 2, 2016

A year after the original announcement for RACE THROUGH NEW YORK STARRING JIMMY FALLON, Universal Orlando released additional details regarding the ride set to open in spring 2017.  Guests will get up close and personal with some of the show’s segments before taking off on a wild and action-packed race through New York City against Jimmy Fallon himself.

The attraction will also feature cameos by familiar faces like Sara from “Ew,” Jimmy in “Tight Pants,” “Tonight Show” announcer Steve Higgins, and Grammy award-winning band, The Roots, who are also the musical masterminds behind the original attraction score.

Additional details:


  • Guests can enjoy a special live performance from the Ragtime Gals barbershop quartet in the Studio 6B Club. Plus, guests will have the chance to meet and interact with The Tonight Show’s beloved mascot, Hashtag the Panda.
  • Studio 6B Club will also give guests the opportunity to play host at their own Interactive Desk where they can send Jimmy Fallon’s famous Thank You Notes to their friends and family, prep for their race with a ‘Jimmy Drive’ retro-style video game, and watch their favorite show clips.


  • Guests will board the world’s first-ever flying theater, which seats up to 72 audience members, for their thrilling race against Jimmy Fallon.
  • The race will take guests through the streets of New York City and all the way to the moon and back. They’ll encounter iconic landmarks from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building to everything in between.


  • As they step foot into the renowned NBC Studios, guests will get an up-close look at significant moments in the 62-year history of one of television’s most popular franchises, “The Tonight Show.”
  • In The Tonight Show lobby, guests get VIP access to NBC Studios. They’ll get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see real props and set pieces from one of the longest-running shows in television history – everything from actual suits of past and present hosts to NBC video cameras used to record the show to cue cards used in past episodes.

On Universal Orlando’s Official Blog, creative director Jason Surrell shared more details on the new attraction.  Guests will enter the full Tonight Show experience as they make their way to the fabled Studio 6B at New York’s Rockefeller Center for a very special taping in which Jimmy Fallon challenges his studio audience to the ultimate race through the greatest city on earth.

Visitors will rocket through the streets—and skies—of New York City, from the deepest subway tunnels to the tallest skyscrapers, encountering colorful characters, famous landmarks and anything else that comes to Jimmy’s mind—and “that is some weird, wild stuff,” to quote an iconic previous host.

The Universal Creative team has collaborated directly with Fallon and his staff of veteran comedy writers to create an unforgettable adventure that to bring The Tonight Show and New York City to life for our guests like never before.  To make way for this new experience, Twister…Ride It Out will close on November 2.
