DreamWorks Animation’s CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE Opening June 2, 2017

2017 is packed with super hero films.  There’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Vol. 2, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, and THOR: RAGNAROK from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  DC Comics and Warner Bros. brings us WONDER WOMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE, but there’s one more super hero not to be overlooked.  Tra-la-laaaaaa!  CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE comes to the big screen on June 2, 2017.

Based on the worldwide sensation and bestselling book series and starring Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE tells the story of George and Harold, who hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.

20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation have created a raucously subversive comedy for the entire family filled with pranks and potty humor found in the popular book series by Dav Pilkey.  There have been 12 Captain Underpants books so far in the series, and Pilkey’s first one debuted almost 20 years ago.  Thus, kids that grew up reading Captain Underpants are ready for a movie version of their humor hero.  In a recent interview with Elizabeth Blair on NPR, Pilkey noted his request to DreamWorks Animation was that the movie focused on George and Harold’s friendship and how they use their creativity to save the world.

In addition to Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, the film also stars Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal.  Directed by David Soren (DreamWorks Animation’s TURBO) and written by Nicholas Stoller (THE MUPPETS) based on the Epic Novels of Dav Pilkey.
