Ride Roller Coasters and Raise Money for Give Kids The World Village During Coasting for Kids

What’s Coasting for Kids? It’s a fundraiser for Give Kids The World Village where participants raise money by riding coasters. Regular “Adventures by Daddy” readers know we’re huge fans of both Give Kids The World (GKTW) and roller coasters. We’ve volunteered at the Village for the past 10 years, and love supporting the organization any way we can. I will be heading to our local Coasting for Kids event at Six Flags Darien Lake this Saturday, May 11, raising money for GKTW, and I’d love your support. If you’re in the area, please come by and say hi, or click here to contribute to my fundraising efforts. Give Kids The World Village is the Central Florida resort where children with life-threatening illnesses stay when they have a wish to visit one of the world famous theme parks and attractions like Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, Kennedy Space Center, anything that could possibly relate to central Florida. It was founded in 1986 by World War II Holocaust survivor Henri Landwirth, and GKTW gives families a one-week respite during an entirely cost-free vacation.  Watch the video below to hear the impact of GKTW from one of these families.

For 10 years, I’ve taken groups of college students from western New York to GKTW to volunteer on an “alternative break.” We served food, played games, trick-or-treated with the kids, staffed the carousel, pool and train, held a Christmas parade, and much, much more. Here I am goofing around with my student volunteers in the Village during our most recent volunteer trip in March 2019.

Of course many of these wish families are visiting the Orlando area because they love theme parks (like we do), and, to keep the fun going, when wish families leave the Village they receive a passport to visit theme parks all over the world (including Six Flags Darien Lake here in New York).

GKTW Coasting for Kids Darien Lake

Six Flags Darien Lake has partnered with GKTW to host a Coasting for Kids event on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Each participant who raises – or donates – at least $100 in support of GKTW will receive a special Coasting for Kids pass, that earns them a Coasting for Kids T-shirt and exclusive ride times.

“We are excited to host Coasting for Kids early this season for a terrific day of family fun. We are fortunate to support and participate in such worthwhile cause,” said Six Flags Darien Lake Park President Chris Thorpe.

All money raised by participants will help Give Kids The World provide free, weeklong dream vacations to critically ill children and their families. Give Kids The World President and CEO Pamela Landwirth said partnering with Six Flags Darien Lake is a partnership that makes sense for the Village.

“We share many of the same goals – bringing happiness and joy to families,” she said. “We are extremely grateful for all of their support. Coasting for Kids is going to be spectacular.”

Coasting for Kids events will take place in over a dozen different parks across the country from now until September.
