As the sun sets, the nights awaken with a frightening chill as cult favorites, cinematic greats, and original stories take over Universal Studios Florida. Guests can brave 10 disturbingly-real haunted houses, five blood-curling scare zones filled with scareactors stalking their every move, live entertainment – including a brand-new, twisted nighttime lagoon show, “Halloween Marathon of Mayhem,” plus enjoy access to Universal Studios’ most thrilling attractions.

I began experiencing Halloween Horror Nights when I moved to Orlando six years ago and I return year after year for more thrills and scares! I must preface before we continue that Halloween Horror Nights is not for the “faint of heart” nor is it recommended for children under the age of thirteen. Any videos or descriptions ahead is not recommended for every viewer.

Throughout the event, guests will be able to encounter ten different spine chilling haunted houses.

Encounter the terrifying Upside Down where they will walk through iconic scenes like the Starcourt Mall and Hopper’s cabin and face ferocious Demodogs, from seasons 2 and 3 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Stranger Things is one of my favorite series streaming on Netflix, and this year’s house did not disappoint. I was a massive fan of last year’s house and this year continues its attention to detail and amazing production design. Not to mention the scares! My only complaint about the house was the inclusion of more from Season 3. The house seemed to focus a lot on Season 2, whereas we lost many iconic moments from Season 3. However the scenes they chose to incorporate baffled my mind!

Guests will also be transported to the streets of New York as the rift between worlds opens – “Ghostbusters. This is my personal favorite house as again the attention to detail comes into play and leaves you wanting to run-through the house again and again!

Another house I was excited for was Universal Monsters which is inspired by Universal Pictures’ classic horror flicks. You’ll come face-to-face with the legendary monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Wolf Man and more. My personal favorites were seeing Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, and Hunchback of Notre Dame! This house was incredible and will continue to get me to visit each night I go to Horror Nights.

You can then journey into the unnerving world of Jordan Peele’s and Universal Pictures’ “Us” where The Tethered emerge from their tunnels to seek revenge on their privileged doubles. I personally have yet to see Us, however I am a fan of Jordan Peele’s work and after experiencing the house and I cannot wait to see this cinematic masterpiece!

After that, enter the sleepy small town of Crescent Cove that has been taken over by a pack of murderous clown-like creatures in MGM’s “Killer Klowns From Outer Space.” I was a huge fan of Killer Klowns scare zone last year, and this year the house itself did not disappoint. When you experience the house, be sure to keep your nose open for the smells of popcorn and cotton candy!

Next, you can head to the back of the park to take a relentless tour of Rob Zombie’s “House of 1000 Corpses,” and venture through the chaotic home of the Firefly family, a sadistic clan of psychotic killers. I did not have any knowledge of the story of Rob Zombie, however again the detail in the house continued to astound me.

This year, Universal Creative has produced four original houses including, “Graveyard Games,” “Yeti: Terror of the Yukon,” “Depths of Fear” and “Nightingales: Blood Pit.” All four of these houses blew my mind away! The costumes, detail, and theming all left you wanting more! Nightingales was truly the only house that somewhat disappointed me. It felt quick, and lacked a story. Perhaps I looked too much into the house, but I was still marveled at the amazing costume design.

The horror continues in the streets with the menacing scareactors in five highly-themed scare zones –Zombieland: Double Tap,” based-on Sony Pictures’ 2009 cult classic hit and upcoming sequel out on October 18 in U.S. theaters, and “Rob Zombie Hellbilly Deluxe,” inspired by the popular music of horror icon Rob Zombie. Guests will also find themselves in three original nightmares – “Anarch-cade,” “Vikings Undead” and “Vanity Ball.”

And when you need a break from the screams, guests can enjoy two thrilling shows. Academy of Villains returns for its fourth year in a row with an all-new show, “Academy of Villains: Altered States,” featuring a killer mix of dance and theatrics. And, for the first time ever, guests can watch as terrifying moments inspired by some of the Halloween classics taking over the event come to life right before their eyes in the Universal Studios Florida lagoon during “Halloween Marathon of Mayhem.” The lagoon show itself was spectacular and features moments from Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and the classic Universal Monster movies!

Halloween Horror Nights continues select night at Universal Orlando till November 2nd! If you’re a local or think you’ll visit at least twice, I highly recommend the Frequent Fear Pass which gets you in almost all event nights! I also recommend visiting on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays for the lowest crowded nights. Are you excited for Halloween Horror Nights? Have you been to this year yet?
